You should be able to update your Roxio at this site. I have tried several software like this and Roxio is my favorite.

Thanks, I've been to that site, I think the installer for AVG led me directly there. That's the bind: first I assume I have 6.2.something, and when I go to that and say download I am asked for my registration information, which I don't have, and as I think I said, I have no idea how Roxio got on my system, maybe Gateway provided as a factory load. If so, there is no activation Icon nor any way to find it to activate the Icon. Roxi also suggests that one activate Roxi CD... and click on the "update", I am so far unable to do that.

Ok I don't know where you have looked so I will start from the beginning. Go to start, control panel, add remove programs, let it complete the list and look there for Roxio, if it is there you can select it and choose delete.

go to start, all programs, look through the list of programs there and look for Roxio, right click it to find your options to run, uninstall etc.

right click start, explore, go to the program files, open look there for Roxio folder.

go to start, search, search for roxio in all files on your pc.

Those are the most common ways to try to find something.
Roxio is a popular program and yes it did come bundled in many computers so that very well may be how it got on your pc it came with it, and it may be that you never used it so it has never been activated which would be why you don't "see" it.

Try that and let us know what you turn up.

First, Roxio not in the list of programs on the system (add/remove),
Roxio not in the list for Programs under start, but using the search the following is found
In programFiles\commonfiles a folder named Roxio Shared
and in windows\system32 two files
CDDBControlRoxio.dll and CDDBUIRoxie.dll

Jerry, I have an older version of the Roxio software and it's listed in Add/Remove as Easy CD Creator Platinum... Perhaps yours has a similar name?

A few years back the company changed hands or sold off the software or something and they ended up with two or three names for the same CD program... Perhaps you got one of the other ones?

If it were me I wouldn't kill off those dll files just yet though... It may disable the CD program you are using... I seem to remember something about my tech disabling one of the programs in Easy CD Creator because it would interfere with any other CD authoring software... You may want to check with Gateway first...

I got that SAME message as you when I install AVG.
I too do not have any such thing so I ignored it.
I am also on a Gateway.
I had that happen before when installing the old AVG when I was following the wizard to install.

Rita, yes I read all the "names" in the list of active programs in the add/remove list, nothing looked like a CD Creator program, then too I did find Roxio files (dll) and a folder with more files on my C-drive.

Seems it may be a secrete gift from Gateway...thanks urlee. I did consider installing anyway and seeing what happened, the fact that you've done so is encouraging me in that direction. Then too, AVG 7.5 does keep working, and getting updates. I suppose that will stop at some point.

Any views on the resource needs of 8 verses 7.5? Doesn't AVG have a "bad" reputation for resource consumption? I know when it is running in the "background" my computer slows down for any application I'm actively using.

I would keep AVG 7.5 as long as you possibly can. IF you read some of the threads here and on other security/tech forums the new AVG8 is still buggy and in some cases yes uses up 100% cpu resources. Hopefully some of the issues will be fixed soon. At the very least read up on the added extras that come with AVG8 so you know at install if you want to install them or not.

I'm keeping SP3 (XP), still no know problems on my system as far as I know. But, I'll will stay on the side-lines with AVG. 7.5 is still supported, I saw at least one update today.

I put AVG 8 free on my 3 computers and I don't see AVG 7.5 anymore. I believe it said it would uninstall it when I was installing the newer version.

FWIW it told me I didn't have a firewall on one of my machines which isn't true. I ignored it and continued the install. Now I wish I still had the older version. How come I lost it?

Jane when you install AVG 8 it replaces AVG 7.5 so you won't still see it anymore.

Jane, are you saying you can't download an installation of AVG 7.5 any more? I must have a copy on my machine, Yes, I have 7.5.1.4.3-339 at 13.8 MBytes. It could be sent to you as an attachment, send me a private email if you'd like that to happen, that way neither of us has to post our email on the forum public page.

If I don't allow email, post here I need to update my registration/profile.
