After it did the updates, I connected the wifi again and clicked on shop which took me to the kobobooks site, I entered my account info, I had an existing account, and it found all my books which I had previously got from the kobo site and synced the device with my account and voila all my books are now on the new lookbook.
It does have night read feature, black screen with white text, which I love. And has several levels of the brightness of the light.
Very easy to read, am getting used to using button to change pages rather than touchscreen, in that respect it is very similar to Kindle.

I do believe I will have to chase down another one for my husband. I was going to give this one to him but I am enjoying the new toy. Will be interesting to see how long the battery life is. This unit does have color so the books are in color for the covers and pictures which is nice.

I have not seen a negative yet. It is strictly an ereader nothing more but it does seem to do that very well.

Sounds better than my Sony eReader. I do not have wifi, no backlighting. Good battery life, though, and very solidly built. Never heard of kobo books, but having not had a reader except the Sony, probably not surprising. From the little I've seen in the eReader niche, I'm thinking Sony is destined to do the same thing with this product that they did to the Betamax, but I'm dating myself. :-)

The Sony uses eInk, which an entirely different kind of display than the Lookbook has. eInk isn't backlit (just like with the Kindle and Nook).

Engadget says the Lookbook is a piece of junk. If you pay a 1/3 the price of other readers, there has to be a reason.

Well I had to go buy another one for my husband. He picked up mine last night and was able to figure it out with very little help from me which is a good thing. He liked it and said yes he wants one. This way we can order books we both like from kobobooks and each have a copy on our own device no more waiting for one to finish it.

I am quite surprised at this device for the price. It is so light weight. Battery life is very good since all it does is ereader an the wifi is generally not turned on. From what I could read it looks like it runs on BSD or linux.

by the way I have been reading the free book Relentless by Robin Parrish and it has me hooked, I hope it keeps on as it is because it is good so far.

I got the epub version free at kobobooks but don't think it is still free, it was also free at B&N a while back.

The one CVS had a total of 3 of them I got 2, the other CVS did not get any in on their truck but said they would give out rainchecks.

For the price they would make great gifts

It is not always a good idea to go strictly by reviews, most of the reviews on items like this are done even before they are released to the public, or at least soon after they begin to sell. Those reviews are based on those early original models and of course the release price.
Most of these type devices will have many updates to them just like windows gets updates, these fix the bugs as they are discovered. So if you are reading an early review that is saying something does not work right or complains of something it likely has had an update that fixed that problem. If I had gone by only the early reviews of the Pandigital Novel I never would have got one, and that would have been a huge mistake because it is a great device.
I take the reviews as one part of my purchase decision. Now when you introduce a super low price like this special sale is that really makes a difference, because to me for $49 it is definitely worth picking up and trying because of course if I find it is not what I was hoping for I can bring it right back.

So when looking at reviews of any tech item I pay close attention to the date that the review was written. Knowing that an old review is just that a review of an old device not the most recent version.
I put a lot of weight on my decision when I can get direct word of mouth from someone that actually owns the device too.

If the review is flawed because because it's an "early" version, then the review of, say, an iPad (and every other device) is equally flawed because most of the big review sites get their devices before the general public (or at least a release date). While price enters into the equation and some people might be willing to overlook flaws because a device is so cheap, it doesn't change the fact that the device is flawed.

The cost to build a Kindle 2 was around $185 (and was selling for $360). Just for sake of discussion lets use the same formula and assume a Kindle 3 costs $70 to build (half of $140). It's pretty obvious that a $49 device isn't using the same components or the same quality of components.

vera you need your password that you had to use to connect your pc or laptop to your wireless network, any thing that you will want to connect to it will need that password, I usually suggest people write it down and tape it to the router somewhere so they know where to find it. When you had your router set up for your wireless you had to create that password so did you write all that important info down somewhere when you did that?

If you can not find it let me know there is a free program I can lead you to that can find it for you from your pc

I like my lookbook. I downloaded a few books already and had no problem. What do you expect for $49.99? If I have it for a year I think it will be worth it. The only problem I have is I wish I can save the books I bought and keep them to load in a kindle or something else when this dies. Nothing lasts forever.

well as long as you get your next device that reads the epub format books then you can just keep them on a memory card and move them on to the next device. I have my lookbook and my Pandigital Novel that I swap the memory card between to share my books.
My husband is really loving his lookbook, I knew he would if he would ever really start to use it, now he is always asking me to find him some new books for it.

Raven: You partially answered a question I've had about ereaders and memory cards - you can swap cards among epub capable devices.

I have an additional question. Does the ability to swap cards include those with DRM? In other words if there are two ereaders, each capable of reading the same format, can a card downloaded with material that includes DRM be read in both?

My sister and I share books. She now has an ereader and I'm considering one. Rather than trading ereaders to share books, could we simply swap cards?

Yes you should be able to I do it all the time between mine and my husbands and my own various devices. As long as they use the same type of SD card I have had no problems at all. I would assume both have set up DRM accounts etc.
Now one thing I just thought of, all of my devices I have registered and set up in my name and account, even my husbands so that may make a difference.

My brother in law has a kindle, it is set up in his name as the account holder, his wife and son also have a kindle they both can access and read all his books but their's are also under his account. We tried to take one of his DRM books from his kindle and put it on an SD card and use it in my Kindle for pc but it would not work, that however was with kindle's they are very propitiatory. Now the free books he had worked fine on my kindle for pc.

But in answer I do just swap out SD cards between me and my husband we each have our own reader we do not swap readers.
And I also switch SD cards between my different devices with no problem since they all use epub format.
