Hi flamingo...I bought hubby a sony e-reader for Christmas and he loves it. Has no trouble with glare or contrast and he reads both day and night! He was very much against ever using one so I was hesitant to get it for him...now he seldom puts it down, he really loves it.

I have the Pandigital novel reader tablet and I also have a lookbook ereader. I absolutely love the pandigital and am so glad to have it, I can do so much on it since it is not just a reader but also a tablet, surf, email, listen to music, videos and pictures lots of stuff and since it uses epub format it also works with overdrive and the library and so many of the free book sites. I highly recommend it. And since it is an android tablet you can add many of the android apps including other reader apps like the kindle app so on this one tablet you can read various formats.
I love the feature that is night read I can read with absolutely no lights on and not bother anyone.

the lookbook is just an ereader it is exactly like the litarati by sharper image made by the same company and I got it at CVS on sale for $49 which was a real steal.

I would not get any reader that is discontinued they are moving very fast in doing upgrades and updates so getting the latest version is absolutely the best idea.
Pandigital Novel eReaders

we have several threads over on the computer help area about the Pandigital, many of us here on GW have them.

Ravencajun- I wasn't really going to get a discontinued one, but I might buy a used Sony PRS600 to try out unless they come out with a new,improved one soon. I really only want it to be a reader, nothing more, since I don't have wireless internet out here in the woods. (I have a cell phone modem plugged into a USB port on the computer.) And I'd like to be compatible with my friend so she can send me her books. I figured Sony to Sony would be easier for both of us. :) Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this!

I'm really clueless to all this right now as I've only just started investigating it all, I just wish I was a smart as you or had you HERE in my pocket, for constant advice! :) There are SO many choices but I've been reading great reviews on the Sonys, with just a couple of little glitches. I will look at the pandigital and lookbook, too, though.

This isn't about the Sony, but if I remember right, you love to read. I sure hope you get one soon, but fair warning--I got Harry one for Christmas (Kindle) and I created a monster. He has his nose stuck in a "book" about every breathing minute!!! Enjoy!

Hi again...I think his is the 650 touch edition and like Raven said about the "epub" format it is great because it can use so much more. Family and friends can still give him gift cards to our local book stores and he can still use them as it uses that format which is great!
I agree with Patti too though....they do create monsters! I have threatened to hide his!!

you can swap books if your units both use the same format like epub but there is a free program that you can use to change the format on books so if you got one in a format other than epub you could use it to convert the book to epub there are also free online converters.

now on some readers if the person bought the book and tries to send it to you it may not open for you. My brother in law has a kindle he had a book he purchased that I wanted to read so he put it on a memory card and I transfered it to my kindle for pc, but it would not open because it was a purchased book. Many readers now offer a borrow feature where you can lend and borrow those type books, you have generally 14 days to read it then it is no longer available to the borrower.
