Review: Shift3 Lookbook

It looks almost exactly like the Literati by Sharper Image and it appears it is by the same company.

For $49 it would probably be worth a try. I would not pay much more than that for it, have seen the Literati for around that price lately too. See lots of complaints in the user reviews. Try it and if it does not work return.

It has no browser so not able to surf it is just basically an ereader does have the back lit screen like a monitor so can be read in the dark with no lights on but not well in bright sunshine.

Ok this thing had me intrigued so I ran down the street to CVS and picked one up, for the price I could not resist. Now I have only had it a little while but I do like it. It is quite basic and is only an ereader but it is very easy to use, as soon as it found my wifi which was very fast and I entered my network password it was connected and told me there was an immediate critical update for it, it downloaded it quickly I did a restart and it was back up and working right back to the book I had opened. It comes with 25 classics pre loaded. It has a direct wifi store link to the kobo book store which I have not tried, you do have to set up an account with kobo to use that. It does have an sd card slot and a usb cable along with the charger and a very nice case is included which is amazing for the price. It was fully charged out of the box. It is NOT a touch screen which is hard for me to adjust to since my PDN is a touch screen. It is very responsive and fast to open load and change pages. I have not seen an option for changing the display to a black screen with white text for night reading which I really love on my PDN. But it does have a lot of font size options, only 2 types of font Serif and Sans Serif.
It is very nice looking too, is a stainless color body with black keyboard and screen edge.

For the price I say definitely worth a try for a basic ereader.
I had earned some points on my CVS so got an extra $10 off so got it for $39. Can not beat that price.

After I play with it some I will report back on any problems.

this is a very short time period to buy at this price of $49 April 17-23, and not all of the CVS stores had them in yet. Online at CVS it is $79.
So anyone that thinks they are interested better jump on it.
Can always return if not happy.

After it did the updates, I connected the wifi again and clicked on shop which took me to the kobobooks site, I entered my account info, I had an existing account, and it found all my books which I had previously got from the kobo site and synced the device with my account and voila all my books are now on the new lookbook.
It does have night read feature, black screen with white text, which I love. And has several levels of the brightness of the light.
Very easy to read, am getting used to using button to change pages rather than touchscreen, in that respect it is very similar to Kindle.

I do believe I will have to chase down another one for my husband. I was going to give this one to him but I am enjoying the new toy. Will be interesting to see how long the battery life is. This unit does have color so the books are in color for the covers and pictures which is nice.

I have not seen a negative yet.

I had my sister check in the CVS in Bismarck and they were already out and no rain checks. Do I guess I wasnt supposed to have one.

they should give rainchecks the CVS here told me to call tomorrow they had just got a truck in and had not unloaded it if there were none on it come in and he would gladly give me a raincheck for it, that apparently is policy.

it also does Newspapers and Magazines you can subscribe to through kobobooks. It also does PDF and it has a tab that says Docs, have not tried those yet and I have not subscribed to any of the magazines.

I had to go buy another one for my husband, he picked mine up last night and in no time at all he had it figured out and was able to use it and loved it so now he has one too. We can now buy one book from our fave authors and both read it at our leisure and not have to hurry so the other can have it. I downloaded about 30 free books last night from kobobooks under the free list.
We both love Harlan Coben and were waiting for his new book which just came out in March, it is only $12.99 so basically we get each a copy for that price.

So you can connect it to your pc by usb cable and move stuff on to it that way also or use the sd card slot and have an sd card to move stuff to it. The fact they have done some really nice updates on it is nice it means they are at least still working to make it better. The early reviews of it were not so good but since these major improvements they have addressed all the bugs I had seen mentioned plus of course the price point!

It is a totally different device than my PDN since the PDN is actually an android tablet that does surfing and so much more. The lookbook is your basic color ereader with wifi.

I want to know all it does too.

yes we are both enjoying them, it is a good additional reader for me and is my husbands first. It is so light weight compared to my PDN it is very easy to hold.
I have added some books on the SD card also.
For $49 for us it was a worthwhile purchase.
I do not know if they will re-run that sale price or not, I told a friend about it and he found a CVS with several he bought all of them to give as Christmas gifts.

We don't have a cvs here, but I was checking rite aid, and wallgreens! lol Hoping that they might be affiliated or something. can't do it at full price right now, that $49 sure sounds good, darn! lol thank you for answering! If I see anything similar, I won't hesitate to give it a try! thanks!

yep the price point was what made it worth giving it a try for me. Not that I really needed another toy LOL but I am weird like that I love technology and new toys.

CVS is running the LookBook for 49.00 this week (in VA) -- I assume it is nationwide.

ohh that is good to know we have really been enjoying ours and I wanted to pick up a few more as gifts at that kind of price. My husband is now addicted to his LOL

well darn it is not listed in the flier for my zipcode for this week or next week.

there is a sylvania netbook listed for next week though for $99.99, I know nothing about that brand but I do enjoy my acer netbook, but this one is a 7" that is pretty small.

I will keep on the look out for more lookbooks!
