need help asap to save branch broken off crabapple
Comments (7)theaceofspades, Thanks very much for replying. That sounds better than letting the entire branch just die...but is there no way I can root the entire branch (as one giant cutting)? I was thinking maybe it could be brought indoors, put in a bucket of water...with something in the water for nutrients and then try the rooting thing where you make a cut, put a little stick in it and put rooting powder in the cut, then damp moss/plastic around it (haven't done it but read about it) - which I know is meant to be done when the branch is still attached to the tree, THEN cut it off after it roots but maybe in this case if the branch is getting water with nutrients in it it would stay alive and root inside the moss/plastic...which would be a bit up the branch from the end that is in the water? :/ :`( *Sigh*...See MoreNeed advice ASAP please.....
Comments (7)I may be unpopular when I say this...but.... Here in Florida (even where I live, where it freezes) most people plant new trees (including palms) in NOVEMBER. They hurricane cut the palms and get them into the ground, where they go through the winter pretty much just fine. The kinds of palms they do this with are Pindos, Canary Island dates, Pygmy dates, Med fans, Mexican fans, Queens, and some others that are common and cold hardy whose names I am not up on. I didn't plant mine in NOvember, I waited til February, and planted 2 pygmy dates, a Canary Island date, a new Med fan, 2 Trachys, and 2 silver dates. I was too busy in November, and thought Feb would be okay, then we had that one freaky night that it dropped to 23 in mid-Feb, but it didn't damage any of my new palms one bit. Until last night, its been anywhere from 45-68 at night. Last night it decided to be 40 (could have been worse, it was suppoed to be 32) Since you missed NOvember, I'd agree and say wait a week or 2 more til it warms up....See Moreneed help asap with master bathroom/wet room
Comments (4)This is a nice set up - just what I'd like to have. The wet area is certainly large enough to put all the shower heads on the interior wall, plus a rain shower (although I might opt for the rain shower to be offset to the left toward the exterior wall instead of in the middle.). Perhaps a long moveable bench on the exterior wall end that could be used to sit under the rain shower?, sorry, that's my preference. If plumbing is on the right wall, I'd also consider changing the hinge side of the door to the other side if code allows. That way you could reach in, turn on showers and get things warmed up in there before having to get in the shower. Please keep in mind that if the plumbing is on the pocket door wall, that wall will be thicker than drawn, and therefore the window over the tub may/will not be centered if left where it is. I also like the symmetry of the vanity and would not turn the corner. I would consider centering that window on the doorway, however, and also consider whether the door to the room is positioned in a way that will result in weird trim behind the door (enough room for the trim you are planning?) Probably more input than you wanted......See More2018 New appliance decision help ASAP!
Comments (86)We just installed a higher-end Bosch dishwasher in our kitchen that had actually been sitting, all packaged up and untouched, in our garage for 2 years. It offgasses HORRIBLY. I mean, the asphalt smell is OVERWHELMING. I have an indoor air-quality monitor at home, and the VOC readings are in the 500-1000ppb range, whereas <150ppb is considered good air quality. Let that sink in. I called Bosch, and they suggested running it a few times since the bitumen sound-deadening blanket needs to "cure." I asked her how it had not cured in the 2 years it's been sitting, and she indicated it needed to heat up, which makes sense. But for God's sake! The smell makes my throat tighten (I have asthma), and from what I know of petrochemicals, it's likely that it's not healthy for indoor air quality in the long run. I ran that baby 7 times, on high heat, hoping to get the smell to reduce. No luck. What's more, a glass vase I put inside to wash (the ONLY dish I put inside, because I had a feeling) came out stinking like asphalt, too. So, anyone have a non-bitumen wrapped stainless machine? I had asked Miele a few weeks ago, and they said that they do use a little of the bitumen soundproofing, but it does not heat up, and thence does not produce fumes. I may have to go that route, because this just cannot be healthy....See Moregeoffrey_b
