Java problems

First here is what I know about my computer: windows XP Media center Edition AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+ 2.21GHz 960MB of ram Physical address extention Acer.

I like to play solitaire at a site on line. Now when I go there the background comes up & the java Icon comes on but takes up to 15 minutes to load & then game doesn't work correctly. If I X out it freezes. How do I correct that? I have never had to mess with Java but do think years ago (an older computer) I had to download java.

What do U suggest I do to correct this?

Well if I had java problems first thing I'd do would be go uninstall it from add/remove in control panel then reboot before going to Java.Com to get the latest version web installed.

This will be the one you want Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4 -- click download, select Windows Platform.
Do either the Windows Offline Installation or Windows Online Installation.

there is one on our property,luckily it doesn't sit near pavement and we have had no spreading. BUTwe bought this house right after 04 hurricanes and it had busted right in half.On our property that was no big deal as we have a few acres and it was NOT near a house. My hubby wants it as it is a GREAT privacy screen. It is as tall as ever now. The grandkids climb(only to wear it broke,it made a cool shelf)They also play underneath as it makes a fun secret playhouse. The Giant Leopard moths and other creatures find refuge in it. So,there are my thoughts.I have lost over 15 mature Laurel oaks to disease and all my HUGE slash pines to borers so I am hesitant to remove anything thats not causing a problem(I did remove ALL pepper trees and Australian pines though)and am planting a few of every tree i can,mostly natives good luck tanya

When the java problem happened I deleted jscript thinking it was java. It only effected 2 of my games and I didn't play them anymore. I don't think that is what caused the problem because it has worked fine until 2 days ago and the Java threat was a few weeks back. I reinstalled the games hoping they would install it, but they did not. I find that my some of my settings have been changed and I did not change them. I notice them after I use CCleaner. I googled the problem and found that there are more bugs in CC than there have been before. They even mentioned the one I had with MS Security Essentials. I did not find any complaints there about jscript.

OK I went to add & remove.. there I found several things with Java in the name.. 2 are updates .. 6 update 2 & 3..

one is java 2 runtime SE v1.4.1_02

the other is Java web start.
Do I remove all?

After posting here I did a search in google & it said to check for msjava.dll.. I didn't find it.
Somehow I trust the answers U give me here over what I find on the net..You have never Led me wrong. THANKS

Yes, you can remove all the old ones and then get 6 Update 4

I don't have Java web start in add/remove so can't comment on that.

I do have msjava.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32

I still can't get the game & when I click out of it I can't even get firefox back on without a reboot. I still don't have
msjava.dll.
wonder if I should delete Java web start?

It wouldn't hurt to download msjava.dll
It's a zip file, so you'll have to extract msjava.dll to C:\WINDOWS\system32

Still don't know about Java web start, it's not anywhere on my machine.

Not the easiest site to navigate downloading the wrong item will install Java web start, as far as I can see it is for running java web base programs and probably unnecessary.

Java Web Start is included in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) as a part of the JRE 5.0. This means that when you install the JRE, you get Java Web Start installed automatically.

The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.Confused me too I simply stay with the SE Runtime Enviroment as Randy gave in his link...

I am beyond frustrated.. I just can't get Java to work. It comes on & the cup is there with the red line under it.. after about 10 minutes or more the game loads but is VERY VERY slow..I mean like a couple of minute between each move... I put the official clock & I get a java error. What am I doing wrong & is there a way to fix it? There is a lot that needs Java on the net..

Using firefox do this click tools in the top of browser now click java console tell me what it says it should say Java plug in 1.6.0_04

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u4. See Randys' link
Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime (4th one down) Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
* Click the "Download" button to the right.
* In the pull down menu next to Platform select Windows
* Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement"
* Click Continue
* Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
* Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
* Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
* Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
* Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
* Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
* Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
* Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Jeb it says error console. I have tried several times both from the link Randy gave & also from java.com.
Each time I removed it from add & delete then rebooted. I downloaded the msjava.dll file & put it in windows where Randy said & it still didn't work..I deleted that but didn't touch anything else in there (I know better) Maybe I shouldn't have deleted the java web start but I did.
I sure hope I can get it working..

I do not think java web start matters, follow those instructions to make sure you did it right java page is a pain easy to download wrong thing,

Check your add/remove to make sure the latest version is in fact installed... it's the fastest..

Don't worry about that, you didn't want it anyway.

Firefox Tools should show both Java Console and Error Console.

Like Zep said about java, first make sure the latest version is in fact installed

I hate to say this but java still doesn't work.. I printed jebs great instruction & followed them completely with no luck.
If I delete FireFox & download it again will I lose my bookmarks? Also do U think doing FF over will help? I wonder how much I am losing without java? I know the official time & my card games. I just don't know what else to do.
Anymore ideas?

No you can unstall firefox and still keep bookmarks they stay..

You would have to delete the profile folder to get rid of those.

I'm am curious if you have tried Internet Explore to see if it works.

If you followed instructions you should have Java, so yes reinstall firefox from the link..Bookmarks will be ok..

Randy FF just upgraded when I rebooted..
Jeb IE won't work at all.. it does load but thats all I can get it to do. I hate the thought of maybe having format this stupid machine LOL...Stupid but can't do without it.. I have so many things for Paint shop pro I couldn't save them all. I have collected for over a years.
FF seems to be working OK except for Java..

Now once you have it on the desk top click SELECT ALL now click EMPTY ALL reboot.

Everything is fine now.. IE even works. I guess I had to much trash. I don't know to thank all of U. I'm just an ole lady who took a liking to the computer & as U can tell have no training in it except what I have learned the hard way & this forums help. I guess that little tool is something that would be good to keep.. Thanks again

Boy it comes up fast now.. my computer has always been pretty fast but even faster now. Until I moved to Alabama I had dialup.. cable is great.
I'm going to send the link to my son if it is OK..

I'm pretty good at Yukon..it is about the only computer game I like..

What was the problem.. just too much? I have a pretty good size harddrive.

To much tempfiles, cookies, that also cleaned the java cache it is a good tool & a safe tool..

Hard drive does not matter that tool address mostly browser related problems, although you have freed space up on the hard drive by using it and that is a good thing...
