I have had numerous purchasing/shipping experiences with McMurray. There were a few problems but they were resolved to my satisfaction. I wasn't happy when they changed their shipping procedures but they were always helpful the couple of times I had problems. It seems like McMurray has done all they can for you. You can still put the roosters you got in the freezer. They aren't as big as the Cornish X but they are edible. So for the cost of shipping (which is what $5?) you have 25 edible birds. It was a mistake which happens to everyone. There are other hatcheries but few of them are as good as McMurray. The only other hatchery I use is Ideal and that is when I just want standard chicks. Ideal is a half day drive away from me. Best of luck with your chickens. The Cornish X's will be yellow and will double in size within a week. You'll be able to tell the rare chick from the others because of the size. I'm surprised about you getting a hybrid. We've been extremely fortunate getting sicilian buttercups. Give them another try. I think you will be happy with them.

Wow so many with the same situation, although mine is not because of him losing a job in this economy. I always seemed to find the really nice guys that lacked motivation - I married two of them. My first husband was in finance, and figured that he could work fewer hours and manage to make enough. I was working and had two young children and he did not think that his free time was for housework or watching the kids even when I went to the gym - I had to get a sitter so that he would not have to commit to being home. No matter how much counseling or discussion between us could make him see how it felt to have him sitting on the front porch reading the paper while I was going crazy in the house getting lunches ready and the kids and me out of the house every morning. The neighbors even noticed! I felt if I was going to live like a single parent, I might as well be able to date, so I divorced him. And then I did the same thing again! What the heck was wrong with me?? When I met my second husband, he had a job, but all of his jobs were not long-term or careers -- he was also an under-employed carpenter. He was an awesome person, and a great step-father to my kids, but the housework was not even on his radar. However, with his more "flexible schedule", he was the one that could get a sick kid at school or be home if needed, so he was a bit of a house husband and that allowed me to concentrate on my job. But once the kids were off at college, I joked that he was my oldest child, but it really wasn't a joke. Unfortunately he died suddenly a little over a year ago, and although I miss him terribly, I am not going to make the same mistake again. I'm fortunate that I can support myself as I've been doing it for years anyway. If there is a next guy he will have to be at least where I am financially (which is not much!) and be interested in a true partnership. We all have to put up with stupid bosses and policies, but how can these men think it's OK to put their pride before their employment because they won't tolerate whatever they don't agree with? You can't be an employee and do things any way you want - we all have to suck it up for a job. If these guys didn't have a wife, I wonder what would they do? Please understand, I'm not knocking your hubbies - especially after the men I married! Many of you seem to be adapting to the new normal in your households. What makes it work is a sense of teamwork between the two of you, each doing what needs to be done. A wife can't be the breadwinner and then come home to housework & cooking while the husband plays - that situation won't last long without resentment.

if you order early.. you should take the first delivery they offer .. i used to ask for late may delivery.. all hosta joints.. not just this one .. only to be told.. they were out of stock on all the most wanted ones when they finally came to my delayed delivery date .. then its just a matter of figuring out what to do with them from march.. to when we snow zone peeps can put them out in late may ... thats where the light stand came in handy ... ken

Moi? Who is "he"? I don't think the difficulties of vent duct size increases can be clear without more information. Your 6-inch duct rises straight to the roof? If there are no joists, rafters, or inconvenient plumbing in the way of growing the hole radius by an inch, then hole sizes just need to be enlarged and a new roof cap used. Anyway, I don't think the duct is your issue. The issue is how greasy air is treated by the hood. That peripheral slot scheme leading to undersized mesh filters seems to me to add a lot of restriction such the the blower might pull air through unintended paths in the sheet metal causing grease condensation where it isn't wanted. The leak might be amenable to being sealed, but I myself would upgrade. Upstream in this thread the flow rate is given as 585 CFM. With the peripheral slot and mesh filter design, I'd be surprised if more than 300 CFM were actually passing into the hood. A 6-inch duct has a sectional area of 0.2 sq. ft. So 300/.2 = 1500 ft/min, right in the middle of the recommended range of duct velocities. An 8-inch duct would be a bit too large for this case. A proper baffled hood of this overall size, however, with a blower sized to provide the desired 90 ft/min through the entire hood entry aperture, might be best served with an 8-inch duct. I suggest the following experiment. Take a pan with some peanut oil in it and heat to the vapor point of the peanut oil. Observe whether the hood is actually collecting all of the vapor. Compare behavior with windows and doors shut to operation with at least one window wide open. What is the nature of your make-up air 'system'?
