Non-standard width vanity, needs new top
Comments (5)If you aren't super-picky about the color, and want stone, I'd recommend taking a tour of your local granite yards and looking in their remnant bins or "bone yards". We got a remnant piece of marble (quartzite, actually) from a local stone fabricator. I am sure granite would be much cheaper... ours was a pricey exotic and I needed a special fancy multi-curved front profile, it was around $480. And it's really special :) Granite, with a sink cutout hole for undermount, and plain strait edges, would have been something like $350. If you use a drop-in sink it would be even cheaper....See MoreWhere to find a nice but reasonably priced vanity?
Comments (9)After weeks of looking and recovering from the sticker shock in the plumbing stores I finally went on line and ordered one. Some of the vanities I saw in the shops ranged from $2000 to over $5000 for a 36 in vanity! I'm only a poor hard working Civil Engineer and I'm not paying thousands for a @#$%# vanity! You could also try Costco or maybe Sams Club. I finally ordered this one. http://www.menards.com/main/bath/vanity-ensembles/fresca-caro-natural-wood-modern-bathroom-vanity-w-mirrored-side-cabinet/p-1729847.htm It's not actually American oak it's made from parawood or rubberwood which turns out to be an excellent wood choice for a bathroom. See http://www.ehow.com/about_5098656_rubberwood-furniture.html The vanity is very well made, has excellent cabinet hardware, and comes with everything including the faucet and p-trap. The mirror and and the side cabinet are included. Fresca does have other styles and colors. By the way here is something interesting. Over the space of two weeks I kept going back to different sites looking at vanities. By doing so the the price dropped from $900 to $760.00 for the one I bought. Be careful of anything less than $500. Most of it is particle board or is cheaply made. Check to see if the doors and drawers are square and how well the drawers close. Good luck....See MoreIs this Statuary Marble Vanity Top a Good Deal?
Comments (14)Oaktown, no I have not been able to see the sink live. I would prefer the 4 ft one, but cannot spare the floor space. Luckily for my plans, no infants or toddlers are in our future. I was wondering about the faucets getting in the way. I was planning on buying the Chicago Faucets already because I never liked the looks of the rough body on the Kohler. Then I learned that the Kohler are now tagged as for non-potable water only due to higher lead content. Chicago Faucets pass the lead testing, plus have their patented ceramic Quaturn valves. Thanks for your info, though. The Brockway is going to be the only bathtub in the house! Have you seen the other faucet that Kohler makes (or made, I don't know if it is still available) for the Brockway? It is called the Calder. It is the same body as the Cannock, used upside down, with the rose spray connected right to the body, without a spout. So the spray is closer to the back of the sink, not projected out on the goose neck. The Calder also does not use a chrome wall flange to bring the faucet body further away from the back splash. So the whole faucet sits tighter to the body of the sink. I find myself wondering if I like this faucet almost more than the Cannock-style, which is going to force me to put the medicine cabinet extra high. What do you think of this Calder faucet? I have never seen one in use. I wonder if they are brand new? Here is a link that might be useful: Lower left, Parts & Service,...See MoreShould we NOT get the largest vanity possible for our space?
Comments (15)So many good points here! mayflowers, I think wall-hung is a bit has more of a contemporary vibe than we want, we're going for more of a cottage feel. But I think I will sacrifice a bit of storage space for the sake of longer vanity legs, so the space will hopefully still feel open. cpartist, this is actually a dilemma for us...our parents, who are currently in their mid-60s, will probably stay a few times a year. No mobility problems yet, but it is something to keep in mind. I know that guests, even younger ones, would probably prefer just a nice big shower in there. But since we don't live in the house yet, it's hard to guess whether or not we'll be happy bathing the kids in the clawfoot in the master (or having that be the only place in the house for them to take baths, if they're so inclined, when they're older). And some of our occasional guests will be my sisters, who have small kids themselves, and might welcome a spot to bathe them without having to worry about invading our privacy? Unfortunately, there's no way for us to add a tub to the kids' bathroom because of space and plumbing constraints (we're actually ripping out this shallow corner monstrosity that's currently in there). I'm definitely planning on grab bars, though, and plan to look for a tub that doesn't have too high of a step-over....See Morebiondanonima
