We don't have any kids living with us, but we redid what we call our guest bath in a unisex way. Behind the shower curtain is a nondescript fiberglass tub/shower surround.

I would like some tips on this too. My two share a bathroom and my five year old daughter insists that it must be purple. I doubt ds will care now, as he's three, but he may not be partial to purple in a few years lol.

How about purple items that are easily changed, like a shower curtain, towels, even a toilet seat, and keep the rest of the decor a neutral.

Well, there is no way I would post a picture of my kids' bathroom on the internet, LOL!, but we went with monkeys (it seemed appropriate). I found very cute monkey bath mat, hand towels, soap dispenser, and waste basket at Linens N Things. They also had a cute shower curtain, but we didn't need it. Each kid has their own stepstool in front of their sinks -- you can get them with storage inside or without, and can either paint their names on or have their names painted. They each have their own towels and toothbrush holders to their liking. For non-guest bathrooms, I like to keep the color white/creamy white because it provides better light for getting ready. This keeps the room pretty neutral. We haven't remodeled the bathroom yet, but the POs used a pretty neutral creamy faux marble countertop and off-white tiles on the floor and in the tub, so there's nothing that screams GIRL or BOY. Eventually, we'll put in some nicer fixtures and surfaces, but I'm still going to keep the colors very much white, cream or tan.

In our last house, we went with a fairly adult looking hall bathroom and hid the kids' bath toys behind the curtain.

We are redoing ours right now! I am putting in a whirlpool tub and dark vanity with a grantie top from HD. Tile will be the same on the floor and surround and am tiling behind the toidy as well. Going for sort of a spa look. DD is 15 and DS is 19, so not much into the 'theme' stuff. I think I am going to have an outlet installed on the back right of the vanity for DD to plug in her hair accessories. Then I found a crock to put on the top of the toidy to hold them.

Right now I am looking for some type of storage for over the toidy for all her lotions and potions.

That's what we have currently, the bathroom is beige with purple and green towels and whatnot. Not good enough apparently ;)

I have just updated the kids bathroom as they are now teens. I have kept the blue tiled surface and replaced fixtures from chrome to satin platinum. The old teddy bear wide wallpaper band at rib level was top and bottomed with a blue rod. The teddy bears wore red dresses and blue dungerees. The rest of the colors were neutral to beige. The shower curtain was striped blue/beige. The bath/shower was thin blue stripe tiles.

The new floor is now beige travertine and the walls are very faint faux beige.

Just remember that tile can last a long, long time (see the 2000 year old mosaics from Pompeii, for example), color preferences, especially for a 3-year-old, not so much. Paint, on the other hand, is not so difficult or expensive to change. Why not paint the walls BM French Lilac, which should go well with purple and green towels. You can also put purple knobs on the vanity doors and drawers.

Here is what is done so far! Toilet will be in next week and we are putting in an outside pocket door, so the hardware will be here on Tuesday. But shower is up and running as is the sink.

Kids love it says it is like a hotel bath!
