Girls' Jack n Jill bathroom is painted (pics) - Thanks everyone!

After several trips to the paint store & trying to mix up my own shade when Limonata was WAY too dark & bright, we finally got my 8 year old & 13 year old's shared bathroom painted. Thanks riff3 for suggesting pale apple2 & posting pics- this is the color that was in the end Perfect!

Hope you like the bathroom! Anymore suggestions for accessories & ideas for artwork are MORE than welcome!! Thanks everyone!

This is a five foot wide wall that could really use something on it, if anyone has any other suggestions. The door swings open & covers almost half of it, so it makes it difficult. If I do painted picture frames should they be painted white or blue? Thanks!

Since it is a bathroom for kids I would go bright with blue frames. You can go a little wild in kids bathrooms. Ask the kids what they want hung in that spot. Maybe one of them would even want to make some art to put up.

I would match that turquoise in the shower curtain for your picture frames. That will perk up the wall! Nice color for the bathroom!

Lots of opinions. This is very helpful. I won't be doing anything now to the bath except maybe wall paint. I don't know how many of you are familiar with 1930's construction, but the tile is thicker than tile used today. Plus it's set into concrete and chicken wire mesh in the walls. Since its all so old, not really worth doing cosmetic updates. There are no functional problems with it. I don't think painting it would update it enough to be worth the $. Walls are all plaster. Oh, and the floor is small pink and ivory yellow tile too! Really my dilemma is not wat to do about the bathroom, it's about what to do with the 2 bedrooms. Does anyone know of any bedding that would not clash visually with the bathroom,, is preppy instead of old lady, and not too child like? I think that's what it needs.

les917: I love your suggestion for the bathroom, especially the monogram towels. The monograming at the very least can help me with the battle of who left their towel on the floor. Their bathroom has white cabinets, white countertop and white floor tiles. There are so many different shades of white, what do you recommend? You have a legendary almost cult following on this forum and I totally appreciate your help! bluekitobsessed, bungalow house and ideamom: DD(16) wanted to paint her room herself with a few of her friends. We really don't have the time to start and finish this project before school starts. DD works roughly 30 hours a week and has quite a bit of summer homework for her AP classes due the first day of school. I have the Daltile octagon and dot in my bathroom too: And now here's where I will get myself into trouble...I love the look but hesitated for a long time because EVERYONE warned that it would be very hard to keep clean, the grout would look nasty soon etc etc etc. Thing is, using dark grout on white or light tile because it 'won't show dirt' to me is like saying okay, let's just make it look dirty from the get go. What I ended up doing was going with my heart and putting in white grout with my white floors. Then, before I started using the room I applied white Aquamix grout colorant and 2+ years later, everything looks just fine and dandy. I will say this isn't a bathroom that gets abused by tons of people or messy kids (it's a master and mostly my daughter and I use it) but it does get used daily. I even have the tile w/white grout in my shower and it's still looking fine as well. I mop weekly and in the shower I use some Soft Scrub with a dilute bleach spritz and it all has held up quite well. So my long winded message is that there are alternatives to just giving up before you start and grouting the dirt color into your floor :). Ann

Kristy, My kids rooms were changed over the years as they grew. My daughter wanted the walls painted lime green when she was 12! I was reluctant because it wasn't going to coordinate with anything in my house, but I had an older neighbor and she said to me, "What does it matter? It's only paint and you only have your children living in your home for just a few years. Do what makes her happy. You'll have plenty of time to decorate it as you please when she's gone." I thought about what she said, and we painted the room lime green! Lol. That color only lasted until high school, when she decided she wanted it changed to a beautiful shade of light blue. My son decided at that time he wanted University of Texas orange on his walls! Well, before I knew it they were out of the house. Now I do what I want. - The only people who really see your kids rooms are you, your kids, and their friends. Don't stress too much about making it look like a magazine photo! You will be making changes as they grow, I guarantee it! Enjoy your new home.

What is that cute little thing hanging from the robe hook? Could you hang it on the wall next to the door instead and then put a robe or towel on the hook?

Well, mostly the door would be closed when someone is in there and so the full effect of whatever is hung on the large wall wouldn't be lost. I agree about the turquoise frame.

What a lovely bathroom. Congrats! I think kids of that age should be included to some extent in decor decisions--esp. if it's between their two bedrooms. I would give them a few choices or theme to choose from and go from there. I do like the touches of turquoise you've added.

Last fall, before they announced their closing, I purchased some great HIS and HERS framed "prints" from LNT to hang in my son and daughters shared bath. I suppose you could get the same effect by printing the words on a nice parchment paper in a large font and then framing and matting them individually. My kids are older teens so the old world look I found in LNT worked fine,but if yours are younger it might be fun to experiment with different fonts and colorful frames.

Oooh, another thing you could do is buy some of the pre-made big wooden letters (unpainted)to let each of your children have their own little area "monogrammed", and paint one turqoise and the other an dark goldish-green (I think you have that color in the shower curtain??

You could also put up a framed black and white picture of your children together. That would be adorable!

Thanks for the suggestions for artwork. I'm excited to pick up some frames & blue craft paint & let the kids paint them! My oldest daughter picked out the frame sitting by her sink that we thought we would hang by the door and it has words like dream, inspire, and believe so maybe they can write some words on pretty paper & we'll put those in the frames. I know my youngest would love to draw pictures but I'm sure my teen daughter would not be too thrilled with that! LOL But maybe we could compromise with 3 words & 2 pictures.

I love it! The color looks perfect with your shower curtain. I think the blue picture frames that have been suggested would be great.
