Do Frameless Glass Shower Doors leak onto floor?

We are finally ready to start #1 of three Bathroom renos. I love the clean look of the frameless glass shower doors, but as I squeegeed my present shower door and then had to clean the track, I wondered how you clean the frameless doors without water leaking all over the floor?

My present shower is too small for me and my big butt to clean the bottom half while in the shower, but does everyone clean their doors before getting out- that's the only way I can see to prevent dripping on the floor?

And, alternatively, are there newer, more clean-friendly tracks out there?

I have frameless. I hate tracks. The very slight tilt of the dam towards the inside of the shower should prevent water from seeping outside of the shower. I have no problems.

Ours has a small rubber lip/brush to help make a seal.

Ours was 3K, included all parts, glass, labor. The shower is a modified square shape a square with a slice off of one of the corners. Of course, that's where the door is. He really struggled with getting it all to line up. Mostly because the standard door wasn't the same size as the opening for it and there is an additional trim piece of glass beside the door. Looks great in the end, fainted at the price. Good to see that others are familiar with these kind of numbers. He did everything, measure, fabricate, deliver, install. They were very tall pieces of 3/8" tempered glass. It was no picnic for him!

This is a picture of where it is leaking from. Thank you for sending the link. Our contractor says he will fix it himself (hopefully) but I would like to educate myself as well so I know how to do this right. That is a good point regarding the warranty. I appreciate hearing everyone's experience.

No there is not a full width track as this is a frameless door. They typically just use the small pieces of track as a guide to minimize the amount of metal. Look for a CRL water deflector/wiper seal for shower doors, These get applied with either clear silicone caulk or VHB tape.

I see this pretty often. Very sad as you have spent big $ for a waterproof shower....and this ain't it. I don't know what method was used here, but it obviously didn't work. Sad to say, but the only remedy is to find a reputable tile technician, gut the shower and have it built right. Wish I lived closer to you but I'm in SE Texas.......

Guess I wasn't clear enough with my question.

I've seen the little rubber lip/dam on the bottom of the door, but that can't stop water from dripping on the floor when you squeegee the whole door if the door is open- can it?

Do you clean your door while in the shower- or if you clean it while the door is open- does that little dam prevent the water from dripping on the floor?

Yep -- if you clean it 95% of the water goes back into the shower. the remaining drips aren't any worse than the water off your feet.

Or, if you're lazy, just close the door again. The water clings to our glass, and doesn't sheet off (not enough to sheet).

Thanks!

I just realized reading Heimert's last post, that with a bigger shower, I may not have that much water hitting the door either! This is for a basement shower which I won't be using, so who knows if anyone else will actually squeegee it clean! :>)

Well, enough of a coffee break- back to work (does it ever end?-I'm officially sick of renos now)
