Frameless Glass Shower Door Swing Dilemma - Please Look and Help
Comments (38)with 3 young boys I really wanted a urinal in my house, space doesn't allow it and my husband thinks it's a terrible idea. When I dream about installing one I think of all the clean up it would save. Though my boys are being trained to clean up after themselves - I think my 89 yr old is pretty good at it but my 5 yr old and training 2 yr old are not nearly as efficient as necessary. I am one woman who thinks it's a great idea! Rachel...See MoreFrameless shower glass/door location
Comments (4)Thanks everyone. Now the issue of the chair rail has come up of course. Our GC is working with the door company directly, and this is the email I received from him this morning regarding the placement of the doors in relation to the chair rail that goes all the way around the room, including through the shower. "If the door is hinged on the wall as we discussed, we will need to bevel out the chair rail because it is 1/8" of an inch too big. The bevel would then be filled with grout. This will allow the door to swing without it binding on the chair rail." I haven't been able to speak with him because of work committments, but am pretty sure that I emailed him saying we didn't want the door to hinge on the wall. Besides all that though, does this seem like a good idea? I'm a little hesitant since I have no idea how it will look, and I don't seem to be able to find any images online. Our experience with the contractor has been fantastic but at this point I am slightly annoyed that we weren't advised how the chair rail would affect the glass placement. The glass is already costing us more than expected, and adding another stationary panel will add even more to the total, but that said, we don't want to make the wrong decision in the long run. Comments (0)We are getting ready to begin finalizing discussions with our contractor. We have a tub and shower on one wall and I was thinking of undermounting the tub with granite and bringing the slab into the shower as a bench. Then we would bring one side of the frameless glass down flush to the tub deck. The contractor proposed tiling a half wall instead bc he wasn't sure how you get a seal I assume. I have seen many examples of this frameless look coming all the way down, but wondered how do you overcome the contact with granite and sealing? Thought someone out there might know. Also, I am hearing much negativity with using epoxy based trouts bc of set up issues and the fact that there are good, easy to work with grouts out there with advanced sealants. Should I just forget about epoxies?...See MoreCost for Frameless Glass Shower Door
Comments (6)I'm in a high cost area of CA and last year I paid $1,200 for 36 x 70, 3/8 starphire glass. Your price might not be that out of line for the very expensive Maui market. Can you get a bid from another shop?...See Moreasharding Harding
