yes you can change up the items and names to simply just have the favicon for the site there, just go to that one on the bar and right click on it then choose properties there you can change the name, eliminate the name or just put an initial what ever you want.
If you have several that deal with one subject like news for example create a folder on that bar and move all the news related ones into that folder, which will give you more room.
Tab mix plus the add on will give you a lot of options too.

To change up your "chrome" as it is called like I did on mine so I only have 2 bars and no empty space, go up to the top and click on view> customize> and once that has opened then you can drag stuff around from bar to bar and move things where ever you want to, it is very similar to unlocking the bar so you can move it freely. you can do away with any buttons you do not need by just dragging them off the bars and into that box that opened when you hit customize, I also used from that box the smaller icons so I could fit more.
I never liked having my bookmarks in sidebar and have not messed with it. I do think there are some specific add ons for that though.

what you can do with your screenshot is upload it to imageshack then from there you can get the forum code for the thumbnail to post here so it will not take up much room, the code you want will have the Clipboard is where your computer saves things when you click on copy then you go some where and hit paste and it posts it from the clipboard. With fireshot once you click on the big red S and capture the pic you have options at the top of what to do with it, one upload that will upload it to a web server and give you the code for that picture to post here in a forum, Save click that to save the picture to your pc this is a good option just put it in your pictures folder and you can always find it. there are many options, but with fireshot I believe you can only capture the open page not the actual browser itself. Even when choosing full page it only captures the open page in the browser.
so you will probably want to just use your screen print button that is on your pc. Up on the top row of buttons is the Print Screen button just click on that and it saves it to your clipboard, open your photo editing program and paste the pic in there, then you can save it, Also an easy way to do it is to open an email and click paste in the email and it will add it there, I do that sometimes and just email it to myself especially if I will be needing it on one of my other computers since I can access my email from all of them.

raven thanks for the info. i knew how to condense the stuff on the tool bar with IE, but couldn't figure it out on FF. maybe it couldn't be done on the older versions.

Ravencajun - thank you. You are so generous to give me such a comprehensive answer. I learned so much. I had no idea how to change icons and names for bookmarks. It's so easy, yet I couldn't find it when I searched on firefox help. I love how yours looks (and wow, what a wonderful gift - glad to see that you also get to be the recipient of such generousity - you do so much for us here - thank you.)

I didn't realize that fireshot only takes a picture of the open window. Glad you told me bc. I was spending a lot of time taking and retaking that picture and trying to save it various places - no wonder it didn't look right. I have often used the technique of pasting something into an email - so that I could copy the link elsewhere.

When I clicked upload for the first fireshot, it prompted me to open an account with easycapture - so I did. I didn't use it yet. Perhaps imageshack is the way to go. Long ago I had a photobucket account - which I guess is still there. It was always very cumbersome - lots of steps to get something into photobucket - and from there onto a forum. But that was at least 4 years ago - and my computer is faster and I gather that these photo sites are faster too (I know more now, too - and that could be helpful). Is imageshack easier or better than photobucket? Any opinions about easycapture?

Anyway, I'm glad to know that what I need to do is a "print screen" - although it doesn't seem as though I need to get help with my questions on this thread.

Did you move google search to the bottom task bar? I love your bottom task bar. Maybe that will be my next project. I want to get the weather addon (I think you mentioned it in the tips and tricks thread).

I'm using the sidebar more with my 13" thinkpad because space is more of a premium. I have the all-in-one-sidebar (AIOS) addon - which is really terrific with smaller screens. If you move the mouse over to the left side, the sidebar appears - but when you move it back to the right, it disappears - freely up screen space (but making it quick to access the toolbar). I'm not really sure how useful the sidebar will be on my 19" screen. I think if I organized it better, it would be more useful. It was also more useful when it wasn't so full of items.

I am able to make a folder in the toolbar, but I can't seem to drag my bookmarks to it. How do you put bookmarks into folders? I can see how handy it is to have a folder of all the stuff you want to open whenever you're on the computer.

These are lots of great ideas to keep me busy and organized for a while.

to add any page that you want into your folder just go to that page and right click on your folder you have created then click on save bookmark here, that will put your bookmark for that site in that folder.

Personally I use imageshack more than photobucket but like both. they both now have a firefox add on that allows you to right click on any picture and select upload to imageshack or photobucket. I use it constantly, there is also an imageshack tool you can add to windows that will put upload to imageshack to your context menu on windows so that any pic you have on your pc you simply right click on it and select upload to imageshack and it goes, if you set up an account (free) and set yours to upload to your account all your pics will be right there.

all these great add ons and tools is why I prefer imageshack.

But there is now an add on for photobucket called Photobucket uploader.

I know a lot of people that use and love AIOS.

Hint! when you register with Imageshack they will give you this long number save that thing! You may need it later in the future, I know I had to go digging through my old email to find it and now have it saved um somewhere LOL

Ravencajun - thanks again for all your help. What fun this is. I've got the toolbar looking the way I want - with folders, icons (and sometimes brief labels).

I tried to download that imageshack addon but my computer wouldn't let me (can't quite recall what it said - but it suggested I might have to download it someplace and then get it to firefox). I didnt understand what the instructions were saying to do, so i didn't get any further with that.

But I will check out imageshack (and revisit photobucket so I can compare them).

I'm on my 13" laptop now and AIOS is so useful - what I have in the sidebar changes depending on what I'm working on. Sometimes toolbar - sometimes a list of my addons and extensions.

I'm sorry to butt in...I hope you wouldn't mind if I asked ravencajun a question?

ravencajun, You mentioned the Photobucket uploader for FF add-on. What a great feature that would be! Have you had any problems with it? I see it's still in the testing phase.

I have not had any problems with it at all, it does require you to agree to their eula agreement, as long as you are signed into your photobucket account it will automagically put your pics directly into your account and it will also give you the option to put them in your various albums.

However I personally can not say enough how much I love the imageshack add ons, not only for firefox but for windows. I have used those for many years now and use them pretty much daily. I can go to any picture in my computer and right click on it and send it directly to my imageshack account which stores it there and with the use of tags I can separate them into groupings like albums, you get all the various code to use on forums etc.
with the firefox add on any picture on the web I right click on and select send to imageshack and it goes right into my account and you have the option at that time to set the tags on it.
there is also an imageshack toolbar avaiable too, I just am not a big fan of extra toolbars.

Overall I much prefer the imageshack options to the photobucket ones but for those that like photobucket that new add on is a definite plus.

I saw that I could save the extension locally on my system - but honestly, I have no idea what that means or how I would do it. For the second step, I guess I can copy it from my desktop? and drag it to my firefox browser window (does that mean the address bar)? I did see that instruction, but it was above my head.

Imageshack sounds great and I plan to check it out when I get a little more time.
