People don't want the 'new' Firefox

On this page a few minutes ago there were, I think, three posts from people indicating they did not want the "new" Firefox.

I am a bit scatter brained but I don't recall reading why they did not want the "new" Firefox. I recall one subjective growl but I don't recall anything specific.

What's the problem?

I don't want it because I'm happy with the one I have installed. It works, and I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! I've read the new one is "bloated" and I don't need bloat. Also, I was scared off because of the way the new AVG turned out. Nothing but trouble with it at work. I know they're not connected, but to me, once bitten, twice shy!

I haven't heard a reason. I've been using it in both my windows and linux boot ups and have had no problem with it. In fact, I've been using it since it was in beta.

Ok! So now the dirt and the sweat is washed off, and the garden is "where it would have been at the beginning of any other olde year!" Time for a break--and a few slow walks to admire the Fruit of Your Labors! There's not many things I delight in more than walking past the things I've finished---over and over and over---to just look at what I accomplished---and the longer it took and the harder it was to do, the more fun it is! This year I decided I was gonna de-clay my veggie garden! Ok! That's not entirely true, but I decided I was at least gonna try to get the potter's clay out of it! It took me 3-4 weeks, but I went out there day after day (whenever the weather was halfway decent) and dug up one shovel full at a time, down about 8-10", and then sat down and went thru it clump by clump with my hands, breaking it up into tiny pieces, and throwing anything that changed shape rather than "breaking up" into a big pot, and lugging it to the dumpster. Had to space the crummy stuff out in the dumpster every week, 'cause clay is HEAVY, and if the truck can't pick it up, they might get out and look to see what I had in there---and I don't think we're allowed to put "dirt" in the dumpster! So for several weeks I was dumping a bunch in, and testing the weight, and dumping more in, and testing the weight---and saving the left overs in other big pots for the next week. Shovel full by shovel full, and clump by clump, I got half of the garden done! That's an area about 3 1/2 by 14 1/2, so it's really only about 50 sq. ft., but, oh, my, what a job! When I started, I was gonna do the WHOLE veggie garden (minus the tomato/eggplant area), but, uh, that's not gonna happen this year! The cukes and carrots and beets and parsnips and squash are gonna have to bide their time for one more year in the BAD clay! That side's a little bit bigger, more like 65 sq. ft., and my hands and back are simply not gonna consent to doing that this year! BUT--oh boy, is it ever FUN to walk out there now--over and over and over--to look at the good (for MY garden) soil that's on the lettuce/spinach/pea side of the garden now! And all those things are planted now, tho it's been pretty chilly since I put them in about a week ago, so definitely no action yet! But, cold or not, I have something to stare at every day now! :-) It was HARD work--when I was doing it---but it's SO much fun NOW! Next year the other side!!! With all the massive gardens you plant--every year--I have trouble believing that you're "round the bend" at all! Yeah, the bod hurts in a couple new places every year (found out a couple weeks ago I have bursitis in my hip--I already knew it hurt, but now I have a NAME for it! Woohoo! And found out last week I have four seriously deteriorated discs in my cervical spine! Woohoo?), but the joy of going out there and looking at what I've accomplished somehow seems to make the pain go away---for a while at least! And if I didn't have the garden, I wouldn't have anything to "make the pain go away!" Definitely time for a break and a chocolate Easter egg! And that's from somebody who just finished a very large piece of Marie Callender Chocolate Silk pie! (Chocolate helps with "that pain" too! Problem bookmarking in Firefox - don't get dialog box

I lost 'spell check' years ago on Firefox. I could not get it back and it disappeared on all my computers (XP and Win 7). Never could find the solution and tried the various fixes FF offers. Just wondering if anyone gets 'spell-check' on FF anymore? Lynn, sorry to jump in on your post but glad to know you found a fix. Jane

Please tell me what facts exactly are in question? Maybe I can clear it all up for you or would like the X's number to check it all out yourself? W/ her 'holier-than-thou' attitude these days, I'm confident she'd be honest with you. Years ago, maybe you'd have been buddies. What I see is that most kids spend far more time w/ their mothers than their fathers, in a normal nuclear family. Moms do the running, dads are working. Therefore, the mother is the most influential on their young minds. The mother is the parent with whom the children are more sympathetic. When mom paints the 'poor me' picture, the kids are emotionally taxed. Perhaps if my DH's ex's bf had NOT dumped her after DH moved out she'd have never needed a scapegoat. Perhaps if she watched my DH wallow in self-pity, become a hermit, and be run out of business by all of her antics, she would have some sick sense of satisfaction. She was jealous that the practice didn't fold, jealous that DH moved on. There she was, alone by her own doing, and not about to let her kids know the truth. She knew about my then-fiance - saw me all the time w/ him on weekends. I ran into her and the children on many occasions at the movie theatre. She wasn't even cordial to me THEN, let alone the following year when DH and I started dating. She was angered, or so I heard, that I didn't leave the practice when we were in a delicate position financially. I'm not a job-hopper, esp. at this level, and patients were still coming in despite her harrassment of the staff and attempts to have a number of 'mutual friend' patients stop being treated by DH. I wasn't sure what her aim was there - just hated him as she admitted to the kids (when she told them she had had an affair.) She resented the fact that we began dating and were happy and successful. PERIOD. Anger, bitterness, and the like are just ugly emotions. My Skids did not realize the tennis coach was the man w/ whom their mom was intimate. Sadly, she had always included this man in their outings to the movies, bowling, etc. throughout the marriage to DH. So, when he continued to be a fixture in their lives, until he dumped her and then moved away, it was par for the course. DH worked long hours, tennis coach was over for dinner after tennis lessons, etc. In the summer, she, the coach, and the three kids were a 'family' while DH worked, I guess. I did see them when out w/ my DNs on my day off, but never dreamed she'd be interested in the coach - he was OK from a distance, but up close, rather sloppy in appearance. DH is immaculate. I have one final thing to add about your 'theories.' My best friend from dental school and I once had a discussion when one of our classmates parent's cheated on the other and the marriage ended. She said, "I don't know about you, but I think if my dad ever cheated, I'd never be able to forgive him. But, if my mom did, I think I'd want to hear her reasons and would probably justify what she did!" I agreed. The logic makes no sense, but we BOTH felt that way - we are both very close to our mothers but had/have (her dad passed away since then) wonderful, hard-working fathers. So, I imagine if she and I both felt that way, others do, too. It's just a shame that some women use their closeness to their children to turn those children against people they, themselves, do not like. I have a very difficult g-mother and my skids w/ whom I've had issues, to say the least. My kids LOVE all of them. I can rest at night. I've done my job. None of these are dangerous in any way, just people I do not particularly care for, but I won't let my ill feelings sour my boys' loving and generous nature. I can look myself in the mirror at the end of the day and not be embarrassed. And, it would be VERY easy to sway them into thinking the way I feel deep down inside. Of that, I'm certain. D

Mabelding - The faucet looks good in there! May - Good points. I've always considered a chrome faucet neutral until this moment in time, lol. I'm going to order stainless. I stopped at Lowes today and was looking at the faucets just to see some IRL. I hated all of them. The chrome was blindingly blingy (my faucet doesn't look quite like that) and the stainless looked dull and ugly. They were all obnoxiously huge. Then I took a stroll through the kitchen section and the faucets looks so much different and better IN an actual kitchen. I'm not sure why it made a difference but it really did. Raven - I failed to notice yours was stainless. Thanks for the height info. on your faucet. What's the arm sticking out on the right?

I got rid of it because it was much slower when opening the app, and also always slower in opening pages. There's a noticeable lag or "hang" when using it. Don't know why, but the old one "pops" pages - new one does not.

Secondarily, I didn't like the new drop-down address bar (also slower), but that can supposedly be changed. When I tried to remove some bookmarks (yellow star), some of which didn't have a reason for being there (viewed a long time ago), they couldn't be deleted. Innocuous links, but still an annoyance.

Finally, let me say that I had upgraded to 3.0 more or less the same time I installed the new free AVG 8.0 (several weeks ago). At first I thought it was AVG that was causing all the delays, and I eventually got rid of it since I read that it's new version was bloated also (usess too much memory), and I went with Avast instead.

Anyway, the sluggishness continued and persisted until I got rid of FF 3, going back to 2.x. I'm quite certain FF 3 was the problem.

that is very unusual because one of the big things with firefox 3 was the speed increases in the bench mark tests done for firefox3 it had much higher speeds and much less memory use than earlier versions on all the tests. (which means less bloat and less hogging up of our precious RAM and CPU resources)
I read where a few people who saw slow downs later found out it was due to one of their add-ons.

Most of the things that are "new" can easily be changed to the older version view like the address bar.
Bookmarks can be removed if you go in to your area for organizing bookmarks.
There are many security improvements in 3 also, warnings to let you know if you are on a bad website or if there is a phising attempt etc, very helpful to keep you from wandering into a trap.

The reason I wait is because I use a lot of firefox add-ons and it takes time for the authors to get them all updated and working for the new version so I give them time to do that then I switch over.
But I also read up on all the articles I can find so I know what to expect before I jump in.

Curious about which add-on's you are using. Only add-on's that I have are Ad-Block Plus and Yahoo Photo's Easy Upload Tool (wonder which kid put that on), both of which work fine on 2.x Anyway, regardless of FF 3.x benchmark tests, old is working much better/faster.

you wanted to know the firefox add-ons I use? well I run linux mostly so I have one version of firefox on it which is a bit different than the windows version and some add-ons are not written for linux so some that I use in windows I can not use in linux. But here is my linux list since I am on my linux computer right now and can look at the list.

I use the theme Glowyblue and ad plus. I like both of them. I like to keep things simple.

I use Adblock Plus, Ave Safe Search, Fission, Flashblock, IE Tab, PDF Download.

Hey Raven, post back when you are on your Windows machine. I love Firefox Add-ons.

I upgraded to Fire Fox 3 because my programmable keyboard requires it. Yes FF3 is slow but so was 2.
