Bathroom Sinks-options

Hi everybody,

I am NOT renovating my bathroom. I am just painting it. But, I am considering replacing my cultured marble countertop that has two sinks that are part of the counter with a slab of marble.

If I did this, what type of sink is typically found in a master bath? I know what options there are for kitchens, but what is going on in the "bath world"? Ceramic? White Kohler something or other?

Not looking for expensive. Again, this is not a renovation project.

kitchen sinks always have a flat bottom, which allows anything put in the sink to stand up.
bathroom sinks are usually distinct from that, by having a rounded bottom, which makes any speck of skin slide more readily into the drain.

OTher than that, anything goes. One can buy salad bowls, drill holes in them and install them. Cost $10. It's been done before; this is not unique, new or risky. Hope this helps.

A sink with an overflow hole needs a drain that has an overflow hole too.
A sink with no overflow hole needs a drain that has no overflow hole.
There are slight advantages and disadvantages to each.

Bee, I think a rectangular sink or the one in the last picture I've posted would look fabulous in your bathroom. The style would sort of continue the knack you seem to have (and I love) which is creating spaces that are a little different and special. Lowe's has this one for less than a 100.00

I love the way the rectangular shape looks with the marble:

Even though this structure is within 6" of the primary structure and the drain lines are connected, none the less, it is a separate structure and will require the 3" vent through the roof. I received your drawing and have reviewed it. The dimensions are close enough that you will only require one vent for the bathroom group, that being a 3" vent through the roof as mentioned above. You have two 3" openings however a watercloset may only be installed on the end of the line, it may not be installed over a TEE. You would need to look down in the pipes to determine which one is on a tee and which has a long radius elbow. The toilet MUST BE installed on the one with the elbow. The drain for this structure is tied into the main structures DWV system so the position of the watercloset should be the 3" which is furthest away from the main structure. When you install the 3" vent riser on the opposite 3" opening you could then install a 3"x3"x1-1/2" Sanitary Tee on that riser and run a horizontal line to the lavatory. If you are under the International Residential Code that horizontal line may be up to 6' long when measured along the top of the pipe from the vent riser to the fixture trap. If you are under the Uniform Plumbing Code the maximum length of that horizontal waste arm would be 3'6". Remember, that is the actual developed length of the pipe, not the horizontal distance from the vent to the fixture. From the placement of the 1-1/2" line in the floor it is obvious that it was intended to be for a shower or tub. If you install a tub/shower you may use the 1-1/2" line but if you install a shower stall the code now requires that the drain line for a shower stall must be a minimum of 2", in which case you would need to change that line to 2".

Have you considered painting the vanity white or black? I think it would look better with the pedestal sink, especially because of the louvered front. I like the second faucet set best. Then you can try to find hardware for that vanity that sort of mimics the features of the handles. That's what I did in my bathroom. The handles of the faucet, the knobs on the light fixture and the handles on the vanity hardware all have a similar aesthetic to tie them together. Is there a way I can visualize/plan bathroom reno options? HELP NEEDED

If you go to your local tile showroom I'm sure they will help you pick all the materials and recommend the right sizes etc. As far as visualizing it all, the most simple way without getting any crazy software, is to use power point. I make visual boards all the time on Power point by just cutting and pasting the items I'm using. You can format the pictures to remove the background and at least get a sense of all the finishes together. This one is super simple, but allowed me to see the wainscoting, flooring and wallpaper.

Well, I would forgo the white and have a cohesive bathroom that includes almond... It will look better than trying to "ignore" it... I happen to like almond in the bathroom and am hoping it becomes popular again...you can do gray with it, but it's not so easy. You need a warm gray paint. I like this mirror for inspiration.. Here's a pretty shower curtain with beige and gray...

There are a ton of options in terms of sink styles; undermount, self-rimming, vessel, and more. While I love many of the options, my personal preference is for undermount sinks. I find them to be clean and classic and both showcase the countertop (especially marble) and maximize countertop surface. While I do like some of the unique shapes, I find circular to be most pleasing and classic and again able maximize countertop space.

For your unique home, you might consider a more interesting shape as lukkiirish suggests. Here is a unique shape from Kohler.

Similarly there are multiple material options including cast iron, stainless steel, glass, china, marble, and I'm sure many more. Unfortunately I have not done much research on materials and various benefits and drawbacks. Hopefully someone else can provide some useful information.

Check out the Kohler Caxton 2210. Perfect size and shape for bathrooms.

Depending on style of course, it seems undermount porcelean sinks are most popular, white, oval but again that depends on your style.

I put the Kohler Devonshire in one bath (matches nicely with the Kohler Memoirs tub. Toto simple oval undermount in my daughter's bath. 2 Porcer Marquee undermount ovals will go in my master. And I did an Oceana glass vessel sink (in black nickel) in my powder room. I'm surprised at how functional the vessel sink turned out to be. Zero splash.
