trim color with cedar siding

we are going with Cedar Impressions in a cedar color vs a painted looking color we orginally picked out. I like white trim but DH likes brown. I've only seen pics with white so I can't picture what darker would look like. Any photos or suggestions? Also what color garage doors? we are going with carriage style door and we were going to do white to match trim but DH likes wood tones better.

If we go with white trim are we limited to doing white light fixtures and white fencing or can we go with something else?

DH wanted to go with white trim on our cedar-toned house, but I thought it might be too stark. I talked him into using SW Beach House and we are both very happy with the color.

We went with Cedar garage doors. That was his idea. I wanted to use a painted carriage door to save money, but I'm really glad he won that "discussion".

As faras fixtures and fencing, I don't think you are limited to white. We used oil rubbed bronze fixtures outside and when we add a fence in the back this summer for the dogs, I am guessing it will be black wrought iron.

love, love, love your home! I think I just drooled on my keyboard. :0) I like trim color too, just a light hint of color so as to not be so stark as you said. hmmm. if you had shutters on your home what color would you have done them, the same as trim? I love the oil rubbed finish, we've been looking at that too. what color is the exterior of your windows?

Hardie Trim or LP Smart Side trim should be perfect as well as the 3 1/2" width, but you would need to verify that with the contractor as without seeing the framing and if the windows will fit the current rough opening perfectly or not will help determine that. As far as color trim is usually painted the same color as the windows.

Yeah. If you want it to look like the House of the Seven Gables, put black shingles on a dark brown house. Don't do black or gray. Here's the question--with such nice siding, how about a metal roof? It may be a bit more, but it would look dandy with cedar siding.

which is first? siding or cedar trim around windows/doors?

I have been looking for the answer on LP's website but can't find it. I have read online that the OLD way to install siding was to put trim on then butt siding up next to it. The new way is to always install siding first. However that is not on LP's website. It looks to me that the siding should go first. Then the trim should go on top of the siding. Then water would have less of a chance to go between the two. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you homeimprovementdiva. Had we done shutters, I would have either used the same color as the trim, or, I would have used a dark charcoal color since they probably would have been on the windows where the stone is. The exterior of our windows is Marvin Cashmere. It is a very nice color, not too white, not too creamy, not too tan, and almost a perfect match for the SW Beach House color of the trim.

Our siding is being done this week- Cedar Impressions in the "Natural Cedar" color with white trim. Here's a photo of the progress. Hope this helps.

We used cedar clapboard with a rustic honey stain and a reddish trim.

We used TWP Pecan for our cedar shingle stain, and went with a cream color for our trim. It turned out really beautiful and we've gotten a lot of comments on the combination. We used ORB exterior light fixtures and Sikkens Cetol 1,2,3 in Natural (I think - it was the second lightest color) to treat the fir posts and beams on our porch. I especially like the ORB exterior lights (also used that finish in door hardware) on the natural shingles. We have white vinyl windows, and the trim is a different color than those, but it's not so different that it looks bad. You just can't get TOO creamy.
