Am I the only one who did a Mother's day table?

I've been waiting for a thread for a Mother's day table but I guess y'all all went out to eat. LOL Here's mine for this year...last year I did a Mother's day brunch. We had a simple but delicious dinner of grilled pork chops (brined first) w/ plum salsa, assorted roasted veggies & a fruit salad w/ parfaited strawberry shortcake for dessert.

CM, your table looks lovely and full of special significance to you and your family. The pictures on the plates look like a terrific idea, who are they of? Nice use of the cardholder as your centerpiece too. The meal sounds delicious but did YOU have to cook it? Lucky me...we were visting my DD and we went out for dinner so no "Mother's Day tablesetting" for me.

Don't ever wait CM, you can start a post anytime! ;o) You table looks so nice. What a great idea to put the pictures under the plates. Love the centerpiece. Is that a poem on it? Very nice. We never freeze here, and have winter days up into the 60's, so any moisture in a pot while they are dormant makes them a real brewing ground for rot. When I was new at this, I just left them in the rain for the first 3 years I grew them and didn't worry. They did fine! Then one wet winter 1/2 my 90 pots rotted. In UT, I imagine once things get frozen they don't thaw till Spring. It is the freezing/thawing/freezing/thawing that often messes them up. The rules are just guidelines. Be happy you have conditions that allow you to grow hostas so easily. Be wary, tho, only your most prized, most expensive ones will bite the dust. -Babka

I think we made a huge error by building a 4 bedroom house for our family of 5, then finding out I was pregnant two weeks after we moved in. Two of the four kids share a room, and we have tried varying which two share, but it is always a sore point for whomever is sharing. Even a 3 bedroom would have been better, because then everyone would have to share. We didn't spend the extra $500 for a full egress window in the basement, because we didn't plan to ever have a bedroom down there. Maybe it will turn out to be character-building for the kids :) Oh, and we also put our fireplace on the wrong wall of our family room - wish we could change that, too! And finally, I didn't care for the paint and tile at your new house when I first looked, but I think it was because I saw the picture at the old house first. After stepping back a bit, and scrolling down so the first picture didn't show, I like it, too. I think the others are right that it is a different, but equally nice, look.

My husband and I are in agreement that Valentine's Day is just a huge marketing ploy. If your "special someone" truly loves you, and you truly love your "special someone," then you shouldn't need a designated day to do something nice, thoughtful, and/or romantic for that person. In fact, if you (or your "special someone") only do something really nice, thoughtful, and/or romantic for each other once a year - on or near February 14 - then I would question the sincerity of it. There are two days each year when restaurants set up extra tables/chairs. They do it in such a way so that the average person can't tell that the restaurant isn't normally that crowded. They do it so that they can cram in more people and make a bigger profit because they know that folks want to dine out on those two days. (No, Easter and Christmas are the two days when folks who don't normally go to church decide that they will finally attend a service.) The two days that are super crowded in restaurants are Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. I'm not a mother so that day's clear, and the last time hubs and I went out for dinner on February 14 was in 1982, and we swore "never again!" I'm lucky in that my hubs is super romantic. He plans surprise trips for me that are incredible. He brings me breakfast in bed, he's been known to greet me at the end of the work day with a single long-stemmed rose; or has a dozen roses or a dozen Shari's Berries (chocoate dipped strawberries) delivered to my office - timed perfectly to be placed on my desk when I'm away from it so they're sitting there as a total suprise when I return....

Not that this is any help, but...me and my wife have this term we call 'trusting your mother'. Background: My wife's mom plays a bit fast and loose with reality. She gets an idea (like, say, buying a house), parlays it into a huge all-encompassing scheme, and then (for the sake of argument -- not a real example) blows all her money on a trip to vegas. Or something along those lines. So if we happen to get pulled into all her shenanigans, believe her, go along with her, trust her, and then get burned in the end -- well, we're guilty of 'trusting her mother'. We *know* what she's like; we just get suckered in because the archetypical 'Mother' wouldn't screw us over either through malice or through sheer cock-ups. Unfortunately we don't deal in archetypes in the real world. So, anyway 2 things: as far as generic forgive and forget -- you know what this person is like. Your kids know what she's like as well. Make any plans for the kids future *counting on the fact* that their BM won't help in any way, won't be involved in any way. Hopefully (at least my opinion based on your brief blurbs) she *won't* be involved. (In as much as we'd like other people to live out satisfying morality plays we script for them in our heads, the best way to deal with these folks I've found is *not* to deal with them, preferrably from a great distance away.) If she is involved in some constructive manner, then, hey, pleasant surprise. At no point should you depend on her or trust her to carry anything through, however. If you do -- well, you're trusting your mother. The other thing relates to your statement "their continual abuse, stupid allegations, and childish theatrics". Not sure exactly what you're referring to here, but if they're causing you real problems, costing you real money (beyond caring-for-the-kids money -- I mean lawsuits and such), then talk to a lawyer or a mediator and find out if there's anything you can do about it. Be prepared for the real consequences of this. (Personally, if it's just, as my sainted uncle wound say, 'happy horseshit' I wouldn't mind so much -- I'd sit back and laugh as these folks dug themselves ever deeper into petty ridiculousness. But if it's serious, then treat it as serious and maybe they'll learn to play nice.)

Cami your table is awesome!!! The fabric in your curtains (yep, I would notice, I am a house freak) is one of my all time favorites and your chairs are lovely as well!

What a simple but beautiful table! So stylish... With this salmon color, it looks a bit British too. I really love it.

For Mothers' Day we had a barbecue as it was my son's birthday on May 8th, so we have been eating in the garden. My son and my father have been cooking for the ladies - my grand-mother, my mother and I ;-)))

CM, that is gorgeous. The colors are so serene and lovely.
I bet your Mom was thrilled. I lost my Mom the day before 9-11, and I still miss her terribly.
As for my own Mother's Day, I didn't even see two of my kids as they were 'busy'. Jason and his wife came by with flowers and a short visit.
So really was just another Sunday around here unfortunately.

How lovely and refreshing it all looks. I love your chairs. They look so comfortable that I can see myself leaning back to have long after dinner conversations with my loved ones.

DH took me and a dear lady in our church who has no children out to lunch on Mother's Day. Yea! No cooking!!
It was all delish and we had no dishes to wash. Just perfect.

And I agree with luvs, please post all of the pictures you can. We love them.

DD, the pics are of my guests (kids & grandkids) & they served as placecards. My kids tease me because I love to use placecards yet I always seat everybody at the same place @ family dinners. LOL I know that y'all will understand...it gives me something extra to jazz up the table. ;o) Hubby did do most of the cooking...I only made the parfaited strawberry shortcakes.

Luvs, that is a poem on teh wire thingamajiggie. It's Somebody Said..... The "pedestal plates" are crystal candlesticks w/ a glass plate set on top. I used a bit of double-sided tape to help adhere them w/out having to permanently glue them.

Jay, I've had those curtains for over 5 years. I got them @ either Family Dollar or Big Lots...I think I've gotten my money's worth out of them ;o) & want to switch them to lined black & cream toile drapes. Normally this time of year, I've replaced them w/ white lace to go w/ my spring & summer look but I am determined not to change them again until I get the toile. Don't you think the black & cream toile will work through all the seasons?

I'm sorry your kids didn't honor you the way they should Purple! ((((hugs)))) My mother wasn't there this year. I got her last year for a Mother's day brunch so she spent this year @ my sister's lake house.

Great poem, CM, thanks for sharing it. I made my "stacked" plates the same way by using the candlesticks and plates, but I had used florist clay--I think sticky tape would be better, I'll have to buy some and try it. I'm off to check out your blog. ;o) Luvs

Wow! You have sure created some great tablescapes, CM! You fit right in here perfectly. What a great table you have, it looks like it expands to hold 10 people. Love the shape of your chairs too. Hope you will keep sharing with us, and I'll try to remember to check your blog more often.

I also looked at your garage sale finds. Love the roses on the wine rack and the candelabras are going to look so great once you paint them white. I can just see that bust of the lady in a Mother's Day tablescape too. You really found some great things at bargain prices. I love to do that too, and I also love anything with roses on it. ;o)

Lovely, Cami! This is the first year I didn't have a crowd here. We went to my son's for a change. He and my dh grilled and dil did the rest.

Just checked out your blog, CM and enjoyed all your tablescapes. I can really relate (as a lot of us here can) to how much fun it is to set a table. Loved some of your creative ideas as well like using a glove to make an "ice hand" floating in water for Halloween, that was a great picture!
