Every day. We are less than 5 mins away... And we are both obsessive over monitoring the progress and making sure things are being done the right way :)

At least 5 times a week. We are about 30 min away, but any day I think something might have happened, I drive out in the evening to check on the progress. I really can't imagine not having the luxury of being able to be onsite most days. Building from a distance would probably drive me batty.

Everyday! I live a few blocks away. If i am not there not much gets done on most days as I am the doer.

Every day. We live in a rental house like 70 yards away.

In the beginning, we tried to do once/week. I wanted to be able to see some progress and going more often was a let down. Towards the end, we probably went 3-4 times/week just to be sure the finishing touches were going up correctly.

Every day. Luckily we were close enough to do so. We corrected several things that were just getting started wrong. I'm not sure what would have happened if we were there any less.

I go 5 days a week, but my husband goes every day. We live 10 minutes away. I can't imagine keeping track if I could only go once a week.

When we built the house we are in now, we were onsite once or twice a day. I certainly plan on doing the same with this next one.

I was on-site every day, most of the day, and so was my builder. My house is large (7K sq ft) and has lots of unusual features (elevator, smart house stuff, etc.). It's hard to remember all of the decisions that I found myself making by being there but it was a lot! And I had a highly capable builder who had done scores of high-end custom homes. But there are lots of small details that simply represent personal preferences, things that your builder couldn't possibly decide on as well as you could. In your absence, the decisions will get made by either the builder or the sub. But if you're there, you'll get to make the call and your home will be better for it.

BTW, it took only 14 months to complete our home, substantially less time than would have been the case had I and my builder not been there every single day. When we built a home half as large with fewer features 15 years earlier, construction took 12 months. But that was before I had retired and I only visited the site 2-3 times/week, usually after the crews had left for the day.

We're there almost every day. Today we're finishing up shower tile, the propane line and we're getting aggregate tomorrow. We ran up there just before dark. So much going on, we need to visit alot!!!

Usually about once a day, but the last 2 days they are doing the electrical and we have been there twice a day.

I drive by everyday - (only 5 minutes away) - mostly to see if there are contractors working. But I only go INSIDE about 2 - 3 x a week

I try to be there every day. I live 40 min away but work 20 min away. You will never regret going more often but can def regret no going enough!!!!!!!!!!11

At least once a day. If I'm not running late, I drive by on my way to work - just to look at what's happening (it's only about 10 minutes out of my way and just so exciting to see). I also stop on the way home to actually check things out. We're framing now and yesterday's visit revealed the window over the kitchen sink is roughed in too high - not the framer's fault, he's following the plans. But being 5'2" tall, it's a little on the high side for me and now's the easy time to fix the problem and order a longer window.

Well, we were the opposite end of the spectrum. We built from 1300 miles away and visited I think 5 or 6 times. Each time we flew down we grouped as many things together as we could. Ours was a custom build, approx. 7000 sf under roof with a pool house and boat dock. Can't say that there is anything that we'd do different. Our next door neighbor is a retired architect and he tells us that he's convinced we have the best built foundation in the neighborhood and was very impressed with our build. That was after the fact. We were incredibly fortunate, thankful and love our home.

Absolutely everyday its 20 minutes away and our GC has only been there 3 times since Nov. 1st. He is an utter thief, I am sorry to say. Had we not we would not have the house we have. We also had to finally pay a foreman ourselves to be out there 40 hours a week. We sure think something should be taken off our GC's fee for that.
Our house is 6k ft. and lots of finish, we feel completely hoodwinked by his wonderful pre-building speech as he is not a builder just a money taker.

Every day all day or multiple times. We correct/changed things as we went. I ran for parts and materials to keep things going.

We kept water stocked and the site cleaned up and made sure no one smoked. We updated our GC on a daily basis too via email and evening phone calls.

We also fired several trades on the spot for lousy work.

Every minute, every day I am home. I see it from my kitchen window, we live right next door.
I agree with Montalvo, it was hard to believe all of the minute decisions I make when I am on premise. If my dh or I am away for more than a day, something will need to be addressed. We are into the 15th month, I am wearing down with this build and our inspection is scheduled for this monday!

Every weekend, but we are about 7 hours away. If we lived closer, we'd go every day.

I will never build from our of town again.
