Need help finding extra wide shower curtains

Hi -

I need to find a source for reasonably priced, extra-wide, extra-heavy clear vinyl shower curtains or shower curtain liners to use with my clawfoot tub. Either 92"W or 108"W would work (but I'd prefer 92"). I don't need weights or magnets because I usually trim the bottoms anyway, but I'd like them to be extra-heavy and to have non-rusting metal grommets (if they even exist).

Any ideas?

JC Penney makes the ones I use on my claw foot. I just buy the heavy duty solid white liners. I use three of them together and just overlap them by two (non-rusting) grommets at each seam.

I don't know about clear though but if you find the clear ones, you could do the same thing.

Good luck. My extra wide didn't work for me because of where the shower rings attach to my wall and ceiling.

Sadie, I went and looked at my curtains. I see now that I actually used 2 panels on each side. Each panel is 54 inches wide. More width than I needed but I guess now that I didn't want to cut one panel into two widths. My panels are not lined. I just opened up the opposing side hems and sewed them together with a very narrow seam and then overcast the edge. I have no problem drawing the curtains across except for getting the folds to look "perfect"- that's partly because I have all that extra fabric width. I used to close the curtains everyday because the door faces south and the sun could be too much, but we have replaced the original door and now have blinds between the glass. Now I only close the curtains at night if we have guests for dinner and I want it to look a little fancier in the room.

A few years ago we did something similar. I found an extra long liner at walmart, of all places. It's carried in stores & online, or at least was back then. Under $10. Extra long liner. Standard is 70" or 71" long, this one is 78".

To clarify my numbers. Take the width of the window. Add 10%., That's width x 1.1. Thar's how much the total width of the curtains will cover. When the windows are pulled back all the way so that the window is completely uncovered, the amount of wall that the curtains will cover is 10% of the width of the window. That is. you have to allow for, in your case, 14.7 inches of wall space to be covered when you open the curtains fully. This is for light weight unlined fabric. You will have more of the wall covered with heavier or lined fabric, according to the formula I gave in my previous comment. As for not being able to pull the curtains back over the needed supports for the curtain rod, you can get a curtain rod that will let you do so. You need to look for a specialty rod, not one where the rings surround the rod.

How about extra long ones? Mine seem to be too high off floor (but I don't like setting the rod really low b/c of steam/spray).

Hi -- thanks for all the suggestions. I wasn't able to get online to read them because I had to go out of town unexpectedly and didn't have access to the web.

I've given up on the idea of using extra wide shower curtains. Amazon has some that would work, but they're too expensive for me ($67 dollars each plus $15 shipping so that's $150/year). So far, between mildew, hard water, and rusting grommets, I've never found shower curtains that last longer than a year, even with washing every 3 months or so.

The heavy duty J.C. Penny liners that Golddust recommended look like a good alternative. I wish they sold them in their stores, though. I might try using 3 of the standard width ones.

Ajasmama, you should be able to find extra long curtains very easily, just about everywhere I've looked for the extra wide curtains has extra long ones.

P.S. For all of you folks thinking of replacing shower doors with curtains, think again. Shopping for new liners is a real hassle, even for the standard width ones. It's hard to comparison shop because the manufacturers almost never list the gauge of the vinyl (12 is best) and the quality seems to get worse every year. Last time, I bought two supposedly IDENTICAL curtains at Linens & Things, and one was 2" longer than the other. If I didn't have a clawfoot tub, I'd just install a door and be done with it.
