Need help finding extra wide shower curtains
Comments (5)Hi -- thanks for all the suggestions. I wasn't able to get online to read them because I had to go out of town unexpectedly and didn't have access to the web. I've given up on the idea of using extra wide shower curtains. Amazon has some that would work, but they're too expensive for me ($67 dollars each plus $15 shipping so that's $150/year). So far, between mildew, hard water, and rusting grommets, I've never found shower curtains that last longer than a year, even with washing every 3 months or so. The heavy duty J.C. Penny liners that Golddust recommended look like a good alternative. I wish they sold them in their stores, though. I might try using 3 of the standard width ones. Ajasmama, you should be able to find extra long curtains very easily, just about everywhere I've looked for the extra wide curtains has extra long ones. P.S. For all of you folks thinking of replacing shower doors with curtains, think again. Shopping for new liners is a real hassle, even for the standard width ones. It's hard to comparison shop because the manufacturers almost never list the gauge of the vinyl (12 is best) and the quality seems to get worse every year. Last time, I bought two supposedly IDENTICAL curtains at Linens & Things, and one was 2" longer than the other. If I didn't have a clawfoot tub, I'd just install a door and be done with it....See MoreLONG sliding patio door - 2 panel or 3 panel?
Comments (15)What did you end up doing? If you are still deciding, I would advise against a 4 panel door for your 10 foot space. As another poster said, that will result in a lot of posts within a small area. The result will be less glass and a more crowded look. Once you factor in all the posts required for a 4 panel door, and the large section in the middle where the two closing panels meet, you will loose a lot of light and your opening will not actually be that much larger than a 3 panel door. I think 3 panels would work very well and, after allowing for the posts, will leave you with an opening that is around 3 foot wide. A 36" opening is very respectable - also, you will then only have one moving panel which equals less moving parts (see: things that may/will break some day) and only one screen door. A 4 panel door will generally be less weather resistant: two moving panels must join in the middle and try to create a seal with one another, which weakens the door's structure. this counts when a storm kicks up and you get a lot of wind driven rain. with a 3 panel door, each end of the moving panel will always close/seal against a FIXED panel. This is more stable and reliable. i'm not making this up - check the DP rating of a 3 panel door Vs. a 4 panel door for the same manufacturer. The 4 panel doors always have a lower rating. Another negative score against the 4 panel door is that you are forced to have the opening in the center of your room - which makes it difficult to furnish, as you must allow a passage way through the center of a room. Not an efficient use of space in many situations. 3 panels allow the flexibility to have the opening on the left, center, or right side. I'm not an authority on this... just my opinion :-) Good luck! Please let us know what you decided and if you are pleased with the result....See MoreCurtain panels for sliding glass doors
Comments (2)First it depends on the width of the panels. I just finished hanging panels for an 8ft X 8ft. Sliding glass door. The panels were 45" wide X 96" long. I needed 6 of them. BTW, Tuesday Morning has some BEAUTIFUL ones right now. Nice and long. They are $49.00 for a pair. I didn't get the 49.00 ones because I wanted silk. But you wouldn't be disappointed in them. Or the price. That's for a pair....See More14' bi-fold patio door -- 4 or 5 panels best?
Comments (8)We originally had a slider spec'd, but we would prefer to have a door that opens all the way. My main concern was cosmetically that the panels would be too narrow. Was hoping to get an idea from those who have installed or own a similar door if 33-34" per panel is too narrow, especially at the taller 9' height. It's so hard to find pictures and examples of anything other than 12x8 or 16x8 it seems....See Moregracie01 zone5 SW of Chicago
