Need help finding extra wide shower curtains
Comments (5)Hi -- thanks for all the suggestions. I wasn't able to get online to read them because I had to go out of town unexpectedly and didn't have access to the web. I've given up on the idea of using extra wide shower curtains. Amazon has some that would work, but they're too expensive for me ($67 dollars each plus $15 shipping so that's $150/year). So far, between mildew, hard water, and rusting grommets, I've never found shower curtains that last longer than a year, even with washing every 3 months or so. The heavy duty J.C. Penny liners that Golddust recommended look like a good alternative. I wish they sold them in their stores, though. I might try using 3 of the standard width ones. Ajasmama, you should be able to find extra long curtains very easily, just about everywhere I've looked for the extra wide curtains has extra long ones. P.S. For all of you folks thinking of replacing shower doors with curtains, think again. Shopping for new liners is a real hassle, even for the standard width ones. It's hard to comparison shop because the manufacturers almost never list the gauge of the vinyl (12 is best) and the quality seems to get worse every year. Last time, I bought two supposedly IDENTICAL curtains at Linens & Things, and one was 2" longer than the other. If I didn't have a clawfoot tub, I'd just install a door and be done with it....See MoreWide Sliders
Comments (3)Sounds great to me. I have a similar aluminum slider (although it's only about 10' wide) covered with grommet top drapery panels. I don't mind the aluminum junctions and so I usually just pull the panels all the way back. But, if you'd like to cover them, I think it will look lovely the way you describe....See MoreMy windows are 230'' wide... help with window hardware (PICS!)
Comments (6)What a delightful view! You don't show how high your ceiling is or what configuration it follows above your window wall, but if it is not vaulted you might consider ceiling-mounted tracks that will allow drapes to be opened and closed across the full sweep of the windows. Ceiling-mounted curtain suspension systems are easiest to find for stages, studios, and hospitals, but this type of suspension system is also manufactured for home use. The downside is that you lose the decorative element that wall-mounted rods and supports can provide. Comments (19)I mounted them full-width of the room and LOVE IT THIS WAY! Thank you guys so much for the tip. Had it not been for you, I would have mounted close the window frame. Attached are photos and thoughts: - My room is actually pretty bright (window facing west), shooting against the light makes it look dark. - Yes, I know the curtains are way too short and not wide enough. I will buy double-width ones, and longer (then cut to the right length, just above the floor but not touching). - Yes, I will replace the ceiling fan. Let me know of any modern ones you think about. Either dark or light color is fine. - I will probably get rid of the vertical blinds and go for light-filtering curtains on the inside rod or bamboo/cellular blinds? The idea is to have an option to block out the harsh western sun at 5-8pm each day but not totally blackout the room. Any other ideas? - Are the curtains too high? I love the height but wonder if they are in fact crowding the molding too much. I also pulled the curtains too far out from the wall, I think if I push them in closer to the wall, it will crowd less. (I'm using Ikea curtain hardware with the adjustable slider mounts, btw.) - Are the curtain rods at the right distance from side walls? I think yes? - Do you guys think I should go for a lighter curtain color? I think I still like the dark rod. White rods kinda look too plastic-ey. - I love grommets because they slide and fold-up so nicely but willing to explore others (rod-pockets)....See MoreUser
