Help! Messed up with shower faucet

We're in the process of a DIY guest bathroom remodel including converting the bathtub to a stall shower. I bought the wrong shower faucet - one that did not have a diverter. I wasn't home when the plumber came, so my husband made the executive decision to have him put in the one from the bathtub. The problem is that it is 22 year old chrome and I selected satin nickel for the finishes. The plumber said they don't make that size any more. Is there anything I can do without purchasing the correct one and having to call a plumber? The plumber we used charged us a fortune for what turned out to be an easy job, so I really want to avoid that route.
