Yes, am assuming the hummie hit a window. One of my neighbors has a row of windows on his garage door and they reflect the trees and sky too well - birds are always banging into them. I've been out working in my yard and have heard the crash of bird hitting his garage. The last one was a dove that flopped over dazed but got up and flew away before I could cross the street to check it out. I finally convinced him to put up faux stained glass window film on them so the birds wouldn't fly into them. I don't guess an office complex would do that. A few years ago we had a big problem with Mama throwing herself at the window over and over. She would start at about 6 am and go most of the morning. We ended up hanging strips of newspaper on the outside of the window but she somehow still managed to find a spot in between to see her reflection. (I've read about it happening to other people too). She see's 'another bird' and is going after it basically! Thankfully the last couple of years we've not had such a paranoid Mama! Hope yours doesn't resort to head banging/full body launch! Had us cringing every time!!

Sounds like you definately had a hawk visit, and by the way you described it I would guess a Coopers or a Sharpshinned hawk. You will learn the more you watch birds that there are different levels of threats. In my yard/area a cat is barely a concern. I think this is because there are so many different feeding areas here and so many pairs of bird eyes watching them. Basically my birds reaction to a cat is to move higher up in the tree if they are in the same area as the cat. Everyone else goes on feeding as usual I've also noticed that the birds have different reactions to different hawks. Harriors get no reaction. They fly the fields in search of mice and rabbits and the birds never react when they are in the area. A redtailed hawk will get them a bit more nervous if they actually come into the yard and perch in a tree. They stay in the area, stop eating, head for a tree or stay in the one they happen to be in, they are aware of the hawk but not very worried about being lunch. Kestrels (also known as sparrow hawks) are in the area often too. Most often the birds have no concern about them either. They seem to Know if the kestrel is hunting them or just after mice or grasshoppers. Coopers and Sharpies are deadly though. Mega repect from my birds. Like you described in your situation, everything goes silent and birds instantly dive for the deep cover. A yard full of birds can "disappear" in the blink of an eye. One thing that I have learned is to NOT go outside if I am aware that a cooper or sharpshinned hawk is there. I've had birds flush from trees because they saw me and the hawk will take advantage and pick that opportunity to attack.

I am not a roofer but have hired many roofs repaired and replaced. This I can tell you. After replacing a skylight on a torch down roof there shouldn't be a screw head on top of membrane. Any visiable screw should be in the shadow of skylight flashing and at least 3" above horizonal surface of roof. "IF"you are able to stop a skylight leak with caulk,it will soon return due to expansion and contraction of all the different material involved. The more i hear,the more it sounds like you need a different roofer. As if you don't have enough trouble,I have somthing that will distress you even more. Leaks so small they seldom or never drip indoors can and will rot the structure out. Out of sight,out of mind roof leaks are to building what cancer is to humans. Use good roofers,they are cheaper over the long haul.
