Strange behavior

We have a pair of bluebirds nesting in our rose trellis outside of our breakfast room window. Mama bluebird insists upon coming up to the window and pecks at it, almost as if she wants in the house. We don't think she could see her reflection from the trellis but I suppose it is possible. Anyone else have a problem with a mama wanting in the wrong house?

no.. but i'd have to invite her in for breakfast! LOL! that's awesome to have the nest so close to the house to enjoy.. she's not a passive bb at all!

A few years ago we had a big problem with Mama throwing herself at the window over and over. She would start at about 6 am and go most of the morning. We ended up hanging strips of newspaper on the outside of the window but she somehow still managed to find a spot in between to see her reflection. (I've read about it happening to other people too). She see's 'another bird' and is going after it basically! Thankfully the last couple of years we've not had such a paranoid Mama! Hope yours doesn't resort to head banging/full body launch! Had us cringing every time!!

I did a carrot variety trial once with 4 varieties, all were very near by one another and treated the same (soil, water, fert., sun, planting date, et.). The varieties were Hyb. Sweetness II, Hyb Sweetness III and I forget the other 2. Only the Hyb Sweetness II had forked roots and a fairly large percentage. It could be that I did everything right and HS II just is prone to that or it could be attributible to reasons listed above. Doubt it was a soil compaction problem or rocks. The HS IIs were the sweetest of them all.

LOL, CJ. She certainly knows what's what. I've seen them many times move right in as soon as the feeder is changed-- obviously watching. PS I use 3:1 too.

You can very gently remove them,just be very careful not to break seedling. Also might want to make such it does not get burned by sun won't be used to direct sunlight since it has been covered.

Good afternoon! It is possible that you are simply witnessing territorial display behavior from Mr. Bluebird. Mrs. Bluebird is on the nest, he sees his reflection in the window, and wants the "competing" male out of his territory. I have a flock of 22 BBs that spend all day, every day, at my feeding station throughout the winter. They get along fine, until about March 1st; now the males fight, continuously. Both nest boxes on the property are already claimed, but the homemade "crumble" at the feeder keeps all of them around, so the battles rage on. (I am all the way up in NH)
