Best way to start a bed in bermuda in the fall

Due to having horrible neighbors I have been unable to do anything in the front yard (They are getting evicted and he is going back to jail within the next few weeks so I'll finally be allowed back out there. For my safety hubs and I decided I won't go out there by myself).

I wanted to put a bed along the walkway, 40' x 3-5', which would require getting rid of bermuda. Will it be too late in the next few weeks to give it a few doses of round-up and then cover it with cardboard and mulch or should I wait until spring when the grass is growing nonstop?

I don't need to plant anything yet, but I want to get the beds prepped. I would've chosen to solarize but I have to cover the plastic and I don't think it would work then.
