About me: Moved last year (2011) to what I hope is our retirement home. We have nearly an acre that needs lots of work...mostly goat heads and various other weeds. Last year we planted 18 crepe myrtles and 14 trees. Moved many of my plants from my old garden. Has been a struggle since we are in a drought with water rationing and too many days of 100+ temps last year.
My goal is to have lots of flowers for the hummingbirds and butterflies and create a great spot for birds to stopover. My husband is hoping to become a bee keeper so I am trying to add as blooming plants many as possible.
Trying to get composting going...need to find a source for coffee grounds. Have enjoyed sharing with neighbors and passer-bys.

My zone is: 8a West Cen TX

Commented: Hummingbird ID? I had a Rufous about 8 years ago in the Fall. Could not believe my eyes when he whizzed by me and started working a lantana. Only time I saw it so felt like it was on its way to the coast.

Commented: Voles or Moles????? We have Ground Squirrels...nothing has worked with them. Have trapped, used pellet gun, flooded their holes (one goes under our house!), and put poisoned bate in their holes. Any suggestions?
