I was taught at my job at the nursery a couple of years back that too much water washes away the nutrients, especially in pots, and that deficency is what causes the yellow leaves. I forget if it is iron or nitrogen, but either way a little bit of blood meal supplies both and will perk things up again, I think. We've actually had two whole days in a row without any rain! Maybe there is hope for my onions and garlic yet!!!! Cheers! Sunni

Mulberryknob, here's another report of Stony Pit you may find interesting. The other poster got his tree from Starks as well. But, before giving up on the tree, I'd want to make sure it wasn't something else causing the problem. Maybe bag half a dozen pears (zip locks with the corners cut off) when they are still tiny, after making sure they don't have any small bite marks. That should at least keep most bugs and fungus off it. Thanks Harvestman- with larger crops, I'll make sure to let most hang longer. As it was, the 20th Century were at least equal in flavor (and much larger than) to the PYO Shinshiki & Houshui we picked a few weeks later and the Korean Giant was clearly better. Both are in warm spots in the yard, with nearby stones which reflect some light and heat. Maybe I should look into finding white mulch. But, given how many trees I have, I don't think anything can compete with freely delivered wood chips.

OK Karma, here are the pics..the first one is my SC, had the same amount of sun exposure as the others, but the leaves are so nice and dark compared to the others. 2nd pic is NOID and 3rd is a very small EP which just doesnt seem to wanna grow, plus I just took off some lower chewed up leaves 2 days ago. They aren't yellow yellow like I said, but just so much lighter than SC. I don't have another SC to compare to, but the EP..I do. And the other EP's leaves are just like my SC's, nice and deep green. OK so what do you think about my leaves? How should I use the Borax? Should I start giving epsom salts every 3 weeks or more instead of the every 4 weeks I have been? Or should I wait it out after a week in more sun and see if the color improves? I have been giving MG every 5 days or so, FE every 3 weeks, and ES every 4 weeks. All get the same regimen. thanks Karma! Daniella Karyn, yeah we have basically been having the same weather. The huge drop in temps at night is just weird. No night swimming so far this year! I am really hoping we have longer summer-like weather this year. OMG and the mosquitoes are a terror this year!! It's just been so wacky. I only have one type of daylilies blooming, the others don't even have buds yet! And I am usually cutting some late May early June for Amber to bring to her teachers. Just so far behind this year. I would have thought with the mild winter, that things would be blooming sooner, not later! O hey Karyn!! The passi seeds you sent me, that I started in Jan..they are at 8' now!! Maybe more. I hope I get blooms this year. Should I be giving them MG as well as the banana peels? I don't use MG on everything, and thought about it the other day, but wanted to ask you first. All I have given them so far is the banana peels, pond water and reg water. Think I could give them some bloom booster to try and get some blooms this year? thanks! Daniella

I got septoria leaf spot on the plants I had purchased from the nursery. Fortunately it did not spread to my seedlings. I was only able to save one, and I had to pull up the other 5, as once I removed all of the leaves, there just wasn't anything left of the plant. The one plant I saved only had a few lower leaves affected, so I removed them and sprayed with Daconil. I am spraying once a week, and I find a few more leaves here and there with spots and remove them, but it is not spreading up the plant as it did with the others. I feel your pain...good luck!
