Do you have a bog? I don't have the giants, but mine go to seed, I drop them in the bog and they sprout fairly quickly.

You could use some of those water retaining crystals to help keep them moist.

Thanks! My friend has some growing in full sun without getting watered, and somehow they do great (I think the rain rolls off the house on to them when it rains). I fell in love with hers and bought them without really considering where I would put them, so I may put them in a pot to get them started.

When growing out seed, I lay them in a pot with really good soil, wiggle them in a smidge and cover the top with plactic wrap. Keep it in the shade!
Check on it every few days, letting in some fresh air and a bit of water.
Be sure you don't damage the root they throw out.

After that you remove the plastic, keep it watered and increase the sunlight until there are real leaves.
I usually keep my seedlings in a pot for a year or two until they are big enough to fend for themselves.

I throw them around the garden & they sprout like crazy. They get forgotten in pots. I'm always amazed to find one popping up in the middle of the beds & then dig & move it.

Tally, glad you can still dig and move yours, the bulbs on mine are much too large and deep for me to even think of digging anymore. If anyone wants a start of these, it's "bring sharp shooter and dig".

You gotta dig 'em while they are small. Otherwise it's a HUGE chore, not so bad here with our sandy soil but on the mainland in the gumbo!! I spent about 4 hours last year digging a bunch out of a yard that was going to be flattened, most of the time just trying to get down to the base of them.
