Wichita Falls Gardeners...SWAP!

Hi guys! I know that we only have a couple of members from the Wichita Falls area but wanted to go ahead and post about our Sping Swap.

It will be on Saturday, April 26th, 1:00-3:00 at the Belair Park.

Please feel free to bring any indoor/outdoor plants, seeds, gardening books/magazines, pots, birdhouses, garden tools, earthworms; anything to do with gardening! (Baked treats such as cookies and brownies are popular trading items, too!!!!)

Bring a folding table to put your swap items on. We will put the plants/goodies that are available for trade on top of the table and plants/goodies that we are taking home under the table. Also, bring a pen and notepad to take notes about the plants/seeds that you receive. If you bring plants or seeds, please make sure that they are

clearly labeled. Don't forget to bring a chair!

Spread the word to your gardening friends and neighbors! Also, start thinking about what plants in your garden need to be divided. I have lots of drought tolerant perennials that I started with Winter Sowing. They are still little babies, but will be big enough to trade by next month!

Turn on Del Rio off of Fairway Blvd.

Left on Lesley Heights

Right on Opal Street

Hi Necia,

Good to see another swap taking shape. I was impressed by the number of people who came last fall, so I would think this spring one will be even bigger and better! That location is perfect.

I'll be gone a good bit of April, so I can't say for sure if I'll make it yet. But I can start preparing as if I am and then see what happens.

Good to hear from you! I sure hope that you can make it. I enjoyed visiting with you. Did you know that we have a local yahoo plant exchange group? I tried to post the website address, but GW wouldn't let me. If you want to email me, I can send you the link. (earthiller at sbcglobal.net)

I wonder if Jermes still reads this forum. I haven't seen her post in a while.

Storms in Wichita Falls, lost our tree

Hi Necia, So sorry about the tree - it looked like a really nice one, too. The winds really were scary. It reminded me TOO much of going through Hurricane Hugo in Charleston, SC back in 1989. We lucked out and only lost a major branch/trunk on our wax myrtle. It split pretty far down, so we may lose the major part of this shrub. Luckily, we have lots of suckers starting on the ground near the base, so it may just rejuvenate itself. I've seen a lot of Bradford pear damage around town (ours is a bit sheltered and is OK) so now I know why people are less than complimentary about that tree. I was really worried about my new-this-spring Fire Dragon Shantung maple, which is only partially staked, but it came through just fine. Let's hope we don't have any repeats of those winds... Sandy

Jerrie, The daylillies sound great! I went by Wichita Valley Nursery and they donated a spider plant and a bag full of iris tubers. I think that I have some perennial violets to dig up Saturday morning to bring. A lady that is a member on the wf_plant_exchange yahoo group is going to bring her worm compost tea to trade. This is what she is looking for: looking for large containers and stands for converting into container gardening(I have ACM/SM) i am devoted to raised bed gardening, and a combination of square foot and lasagne style garden methods/ I'm so glad that the forecast is showing 74 degrees on Saturday. I was afraid that it would be cold! Did you happen to see the plant swap mentioned in the gardening section of the newspaper last Saturday? That was neat! I am going to read up on the Round Robin for Swaps to see if that is what we want to do. I hope that it goes well so that we can have a Spring Swap, too! Talk to you soon, Necia

Mine have always been grafted. All on Fortuniana root stock. The only way you can kill it is to dig it up and throw it into the middle of the road and let a few semi's run over it. One tough rose grafted. I've heard that once established with a good root system it does pretty good on root.

WOW!! The thought waves you guys put out are awesome!! Haven't been here in months and I log on and find this.
I will definitely be there Saturday. I don't have anything to swap but I will find something. Can I just come and look? I've been really busy in my yard this spring and everything is coming up beautifully so I'm pretty pumped right now. See you guys Saturday.

Jerrie!!! I thought that you had fallen off the face of the Earth! (That does seem to happen to us gardeners in the spring, though!)

Yes, come and take a look if you don't have anything to trade. I have a good friend that is bringing brownies/cookies because she has just moved and doesn't have anything to share yet. My Sister will probably be bringing goat's milk soap and lotion for trades. I am hoping that Sandy is able to come again, too! She brought some rosemary cuttings last fall and mine is doing great.

We had a few new people show up out in Ovila, we heard that a group from Dave's was having their swap in Waxahachie & so we went over there to close up their swap.

Hi Necia,
I was there today, and I really enjoyed seeing all the neat plants that everyone brought! And, thanks to you for the nice salvia you gave to me.
I'll be looking forward to the next swap, hopefully in Oct. I'll be there with perennials and maybe some houseplants.
