Oh, OK. Just wondering. Aren't these some cold snaps we are having this year across America! I see the forecast for my area is for a high of 40 degrees on Saturday and a low of MINUS 2 on Sunday. Sure hope my roses are up for that--cuz I'm not going out there in that cold and snow to rescue them! About Belinda's Dream, my neighbor spaded hers due to BS problems--or so she thought; leaf problems at any rate. I don't remember if there were certain seasons that were particularly bad, but I know she is angry at roses in general for "lying" to her about the disease-resistance of Belinda's Dream. Then she was "betrayed" by her Knock Out getting RRD. She has since dug up all her roses (about 6 of them) and swears she will never grow another one ever again! I always wonder when gardeners take it so personally about their roses--but accept that other plants will have problems from time to time. Kate

I have both - Belinda makes a large rounded shrub and always has flowers. GH is a taller thinner bush - doesn't bloom as much. Belinda has hybrid tea shaped blooms that last well in a vase, but alas....no scent. GH blooms smell nice, smaller blooms. I bought my GH on sale some years ago for $2 so perhaps it needs a few more years to get bushy. I let mine grow tall - the spot it is planted will do better with a tall thin bush. I cant say I would have one instead of the other - they are both excellent bushes. I just bought 2 more Belindas from Chamblees when I went last week. Completely disease free, beautiful foliage - I have a couple of places it will be perfect for. Judith

My best advice (if I have any) for us in northern climates or wet climates if to give Belinda's Dream as much sun as possible. If you have an all day spot or next best where the sun would start in early morning to dry the flowers. Summer, I move roses quite often in September. I do know that early spring is my ideal time. Don't usually have the patience to wait. I don't think you'll have any trouble with BD coming back. I've got some youngish cuttings that were rooted a bit late. I'm still thinking about what will be the best extra protection for winter. Wish your crystal ball could tell could tell what kind of winter is coming. Oh glad I remembered this. Back when I grew BD and for a long time our winters were not all that bad. I was beginning to like never having temps of -25 degrees. It also helps the roses if we slide into winter. Not like the last two years where temps are low forties then bang it's -11. Perennials do fine roses hate it.

I have two BD, both in large pots. One sits on a plant stand on concrete about 3 feet from a brick wall and is in terra cotta pot that I sealed so water doesn't leach out. It has bloomed continually all summer but has only 4-5 blooms at a time. The second is in a large resin pot that sits in the yard. It had 8-10 blooms almost all summer. The first gets 8 hours of sun a day and the second about 10. The blooms stayed full size all summer. We had about 6 weeks of 95-100 degree weather. Both are very disease resistant. We had a very wet spring and I didn't have any trouble with balling.
