A very nice rose
Comments (19)I was fortunate to have so many good traits come together within this rose ... though, further testing is required and that takes plenty of time. Joan, yes, the color is very easy on the eyes and I'm impressed with the quality and quantity of blooms. The rose you had given me had come through winter (with protection) with plenty of live wood ... though, this later died back and it really struggled to produce new growth until it hit its stride in late summer. I still have hips maturing on potted plants, all those on in ground plants had needed to be collected prior to our severe frost of a few weeks ago. Most of these had been far from being mature and so were taken with a length of stem and struck as if a cutting, thus the ripen process has continued. If all goes well, I should have some very nice seedlings to show for next year ... hereâÂÂs to hoping! Terry...See MoreFlorentina Frenzy!!!!
Comments (2)Thank you flowers. I thought I'd feature her specifically because she was so healthy with minimal intervention. I'm increasingly convinced that half the battle of successfully growing things organically is choosing plants that carry their own weight. Of course, that varies geographically, but there wasn't a speck of BS on her leaves and she's obviously fairly cold hardy....See MoreFlorentina & Darcey Bussell rose? Help please.
Comments (5)Well, if you have someone who comes and reads your meter you do not want to surprise him/her with a big old thorny rose bush to dig through to read the meter. Even underneath is seriously going to present problems getting close enough to get an accurate reading. My Florentinas are huge already and full of thorns and I just planted them this spring. Quicksilver is even bigger and stiffer with even bigger thorns. Don't even think about Laguna. That having been said, whatever you decide, in my opinion I would not put Darcy and Florentina together. The red colors are different. Darcy is closer to mauve as Florentina is closer to scarlet. I don't think the colors would blend well....See MoreGlorious Florentina Rose
Comments (5)Gorgeous, Darren. Forentina is definitely one I would like to grow in multiples if I had room, and I'm picky about reds - no yellow or warm tones. It's a true, deep red, leaning toward the cool side. One cluster of blooms makes a whole bouquet. Also, the cluster blooms all at the same time, so there are no dead ones on the same stem....See MoreRelated Professionals
