Are they in ground or in pots?

I live just about 1 mile down the road from Barbra, but on the water side. It has gotten close to freezing, but none so far. Keeping my fingers crossed!

PA, it's good to hear from you. Other than a freeze or two the climate should be pretty nice for playing outside year round like in San Antonio. We used to have place right on the ship channel at Pt. Aransas. We got some occasional freezes. Once my in-laws went down in January and so much ice built up on the door one night they had a hard time getting it open to get out.

I always wonder if the huge crinums still grow in the cemetery in Pt. A. It was the only thing growing there and they were so large you could get some relief from the hot sun by standing in their shade. Check it out sometime.

Linda: Barbara tells me that it has not frozen at her place either. I was up on 35 near walmart the other day and noticed that the plumerias had not lost their leaves yet and the hibiscus are still blooming. mine got bitten hard. we are supposed to have temps in the mid to high 20's tonight.

roselee: where is that cemetary? there is one near me but it looks to be newer, has lots of space left.
For the most part the temps have been nice, I have only just started wearing long sleeve shirts. most of the time they are a bit on the warm side
Mel they are in pots fortunately.
I built a temp green house after the first freeze and put everything inside. I took cuttings off everything that I thought might be viable.

Sposed to be warming up around here over the next couple days, so it should be drifting down your way as well. Today was the worst day so far this year, it was only 44 most of the day, but frozen water in shady areas never thawed out all day and the wind was especially bitter. My chickens never wanted to come out of the coop! Mike B was out there all day (what a trooper) building them a new enclosure that will be called Fort Chicken Knox. I had so much trouble with predators in 2011 they were afraid to lay eggs most days. This coming Summer should be a lot more pain free for them.

I'm glad to see you're still around too, PA. Love to see what your place looks like after you get the plants in the ground, especially the brugs and the plumerias. I always seem to get a lot of growth, not much bloom on mine. Hang in there everyone, it can't be winter forever!

PA, the cemetery is on the island of Port Aransas, but I couldn't tell you exactly where. I'm sure one of the locals could. I hope nobody messed with the crinums in an effort to 'improve' the place. I thought it was interesting that somebody years ago planted something there that could take of itself. They looked like they could have been 75 years old when I saw them last. If you happen to go over there take a camera.

Albert I am going back this Friday, I might drive to the Island to check it out. I would really be suprised if the old Plumeria survived last years freeze.

I put all my plants outside yesterday, I think they will be ok. We checked the weather for the next 10 days. I think they will appreciate the sun light. When we left yesterday at 8am the sun was already out.

I went out this morning and got some bargains at our Lowes. He just marked down the purple african dasies, and amazon neon purple dianthus, I love my Lowes! I bought a red and white stripped crinium bulb, they just got a new shipment of bulbs. I have so many plants coming up at the coast, this is suppost to be their LEAP year. Barbra

Oh, I am getting zone envy even though it has been mild here in North Texas this season so far. I am certain MN has a February surprise in store for us though.
