Sounds sort of like an Alamo Vine. I really,really want one but have never seen one in a nursery anywhere. PJ

I think we're growing an Alamo vine and didn't know it! DW spotted this vine coming up wild in our front foundation bed. She and I both liked the leaves. So we dug it up before it got more than a couple of feet long or tall, and potted it through the winter. We put it back in the ground in a new spot. It's growing fast, twining on a trellis, but no blooms yet. We might have put it into too much shade.

I've lived in NE TX but never remember seeing an Alamo vine there. Since we spotted ours, I have seen others growing wild, on the edge of a particular local road where the land has been cleared recently. That is consistent with the words at the link about it growing in "disturbed soils."

This vine grows all over the island, never knew what it was. I may have seeds still I collected last year, if not I'll get some this year & send them to ya. Tally HO!

Green-N-Growing in Pflugerville has Alamo Vine. Just saw them this past Monday. They leaves are pretty enough without flowers.

heck, it wasn't the same without you. I had the day free, so I wandered around. Got lost. Drove way out of the way. Actually bought very little.
