Create flower beds where grubs destroyed the grass?

Hello,

I purchased my new home last fall. The grass did not seem very healthy then. This spring much of the lawn did not regrow. I have since found out we have grubs. I believe both June beetles and Japanese beetles. Rather than try to grow the lawn back I am planning to start my flower beds as I had planned to do anyway. (no turf to cut away!) What can I do to try to keep the grubs from eating the roots of the hostas and other perennials that I am planting? Will it help to put "grub control" chemicals in the planting holes? I'm not sure I can get any beneficial nematodes before I start planting.

Thank you!
