Join the club. I've said it before and will say it again: getting old is not for sissies. We just have to keep our sense of humor and laugh at ourselves sometimes. I just cannot believe how forgetful we become as we age!

At least you made up an acidic mix that you could use as a mulch so the materials weren't wasted.

I can't tell you how many times I have to go check to make sure if I turned off the water after watering my containers. I have always turned it off, but I can't remember if I did. LOL

Drink and drain time over and I'm back to the weeding.

Lol, if that's a sign of getting old then I'm in trouble. I was on my way to work this morning and had to make a u-turn to drive back home just to make sure I closed the garage door. Of course I did, but it was going to bother me if I didn't check. I'm also going to need to get a timer for the drip irrigation, because I've already left it on too long once after forgetting about it.

I hear forgetfulness is a symptom of being pregnant, so I'm glad to have at least one excuse. :p

I always have to double check in the evenings to make sure the greenhouse, shed,chicken coop and garage doors are closed and that the garden gate is closed and that I haven't left the hose on. I check all those before dark, even if I haven't even used the water hose. Better to check it and know it is not turned on than to find out later it was on.

Dorothy, I don't think we actually are losing our minds, we're just misplacing them because eventually we do find them again.

There are so many things that I do by rote, that I cannot remember doing them at all. Have you ever driven somewhere - especially a place you're familiar with, like a job - gotten there and realized you had no recall of what the drive was like or how you got there? OMG! That can be scary sometimes.

I'm always driving to my daughter's and suddenly it strikes me - did I feed and water the cats? Turn off the coffee pot? Packed up and brought everything I intended, or left it on the counter (I have done this on several occasions)?

I guess I just have too much mind clutter, LOL!

Susan, With regards to the driving, yes I have done that, but I am not convinced it is age-related because it would happen to me when I was in my 20s and 30s and commuting to work. Or, maybe it is age-related and I was losing my mind at a really early age.

I think when you zone out while driving, your subconscious mind takes over and does the driving for you while your conscious mind is otherwise preoccupied with something else.

Tim and I try to overcome our forgetfulness by making lists...things to do, grocery lists, etc. That only works if you remember to bring the list with you, or if you can find the list again. It doesn't work so well if you misplace the list.

It happens to me in springtime at planting time too. I make little graph paper maps showing what I planted where. That's so I can "remember" which tomato plant is which variety if the names wash off the plants' tags. Then I misplace the list and don't have it to refer back to. Then, next year, I'll find the list when it is no longer relevant.

It is even worse with fruit tree varieties. I always think I'll remember which fruit tree is which variety. After a few years, I struggle to remember and, at some point, I'm just guessing which fruit trees we planted 10 or 12 years ago. Writing the names down wouldn't do me any good because I can guarantee you whatever I write down the names in won't be around next year, much less 10 years from now.

I remembered that I planted a few really black beans that Jay gave me and I told you twice that they were Cherokee Trail of Tears. I finally looked at the tag and they were Emerite. On those that I thought I might forget this year, I folded the package and put it inside a snack bag and attached it to the trellis with a bag tie. It's a good thing!
