Is it Really Oct 27th?

The calendar says it's just gone into Oct 27th., but someone forgot to tell my gardens that. Temps have been down as low as 34 degress and this was what some of my garden beds looked like on Friday Oct 26th

All the plants where Wintersown last winter and planted out in the spring.

My 9 tomato plants still growing strong and looking like a jungle, still full of tons of tomatoes. Picked at least 30 toms on Friday

Nice tomatoes and flowers Fran! :-) I really like the nasturtium in front of the Hydrangea and the white cosmos is pretty too. I didn't have enough white this year, I will have to sow some next spring. I hope you are planning on mulching your parsley. It is great if you can get it to winter over. The second year it produces flowers that attract beneficials and butterflies use it too, don't they?

Well, until about three days ago, I thought someone forgot to tell my garden too. But they must have spread the word finally, lol, because suddenly things went south.

I still have lots of green and actually still a fair number of annuals blooming (especially my winter-sown impatiens - they are still looking very good!) but many other things suddenly pooped out.

I ripped out all but two tomato plants (picked several green ones to bring in) and ripped out about half my zinnias. I can't bear to rip anything out that has even one bloom on it, never mind several buds. I know the day after I rip it out it will be back up to 80 and the buds would have bloomed, lol!

My parsley is incredible! I've been giving it away because I can't possibly use it all and I don't want it to go to waste. I'm currently reading Eliot Coleman's "Four Season Harvest" and I wish I had read it earlier in the season. I don't know if I can get the parsley to overwinter as is because it is growing in the holes of the cinderblocks in my raised bed. If I get some iniative, I may experiment with transplanting it (and some spinach) and putting up a little tunnel - more of a row cover really - but I have a feeling I just won't get around to it.

mnwsgal, Are you referring to true Hyssop or Agastache? That is Agastache foeniculum and Hyssopus officinalis....both just common species. My older clump of the Feverfew 'Flore Pleno' was 3+ feet by as wide. I don't have the big one this year because this past winter it was ran over by a city snow plow. It is making a come back but was slow coming to start and part of the clump just never made it :( Here's a few pictures of it last year this time :) June 21st June 29th

Well, I just can't believe it. I dropped the 2 pounds that I had gained. I don't know how that happened - probably fluid. I'm feeling much better. Each day is an improvement but still need lots of rest it seems. I've got good movement in the arm now without it hurting and it isn't hurting to lie on that side now. I'm supposed to take the tapes off on Monday if they haven't come off themselves. There is no sign of them loosening. I'm dreading doing that. Wish someone else would, but I don't really have anyone to ask. Good luck wild chicken. You can do it. Letting others put you down is not a good thing to do. Putting others down is not good either. I have a sign on my desk that says " Don' take unfair advantage of any person and don't let any person take unfair advantage of you" I don't know where I found those words, but at the time they were meant for me. It knocks all the confidence out of oneself until you decide to take action. It appears you have reached that point. I'm sure that will motivate you. Just perseverve and you will lose that weight. Think how happy you will be!!! Please keep us updated. That helps, too. I know it helped me. All the best to eveyone.

He is REALLY having a hard time (carboholic) and has had terrible nightmares every night since cutting out the carbs---I wonder why? Really! Dee...I have overwintered parsley in my yard a couple of times. I just try to put a good amount of mulch around it and if the winter isn't too bad, it is back the next spring.

Parsley is a hardy biennial. We usually leave it to winter over because established plants come back early in the spring. However, it's tough and bitter the second year, and usually dies off about mid-summer.

Is it Really Oct 27th?
