Could your weed be Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis something)? I get it here - whether the foliage is fragrant I can't say, my allergies won't let me.

I have sedums, early mums and white wood asters in bloom. Most asters and goldenrods haven't started yet.

and of course the bird-sown something or other. Lots of these. The sunflowers are all gone by.

and daylilies.... A few last double ditch lilies, and H. Autumn Minaret.

Claire, those pics are beautiful. That mum is gorgeous! I also have the same hosta blooming and I do also think it is H. plantaginea. That pokeweed picture should be on a calendar or something!

I love that you both have confused hellebores. I wish I could be that lucky!

Also blooming now: white wood aster, sedums, chelone, japanese anemone, rudbeckia, some phlox holding on, some goldenrod starting, cimicifuga is just starting, joe pye weed, mums, hibiscus, carpet and fairy roses, stellas and some other late daylilies, crisp leaf spirea is putting out another round, grasses, caryopteris, hypericum, hydrangeas, rose of sharon, ligularia, beautyberry, stachys hummelo, ironweed, aster frikarti, butterfly bush hanging on a bit, a few centranthus ruber blooms, toad lily is just starting to pop, sweet autumn clematis, and the berries are in full swing on aralia spinosa.

I'm with you Claire, fall is such a great time to have a garden. So many great things still blooming and getting ready to bloom, while still looking forward to the blaze of foliage.

Not a whole lot going on here. I've got rudbeckia hanging on, a few various sedums, some phlox also holding on, a rose here and there, some eupatorium in pots which would probably be pretty decent if I ever remembered to water it, helenium, agastache, both plain ol' foeniculum and Honey Bee Blue, some lobelia siphilitica, a few blooms left on my butterfly bush, some echinacea, a few hostas, and I think that's it, beside the wood asters, which are, well, in the woods and not in my garden, lol. Oh, and my aster Purple Dome started blooming the other day.

Sounds like more than it really is, since literally there may be only two or three blooms each of the above, with the exception of the rudbeckia and helenium. Those are still going pretty strong.

Waiting for the monkshood and goldenrod to bloom....

Love the Agastache rupestris, Claire - I forgot that one. What a great color. Is it reliable for you? I buy them every year, and now have 1 survivor that looks exactly like yours, and 1 new one that's a little different.

I forgot verbena bonariensis and thalictrum, and I see my curly chives are blooming too. They're new, and really sweet - I'll have to get a photo.

Wow, thyme2dig, great list. My stachys hummelo is long gone - did yours rebloom? Mine's new this season, maybe it was confused.

Franklinea is one of my favorite trees. I think I killed 3 or 4 outright before I had any success; now I've got 4 growing - 3 in bloom and one in too much shade.

At the risk of repeating myself, here's what Dirr says about this tree: "somewhat akin to a fickle lover and may stay around and tease with its beauty, or simply leave... the garden, that is."

I love it for glossy foliage as well as the flowers. It's not a 'knock your socks off' kind of thing, like some flowering trees, it's just got a lot of charm.

DTD: I bought two Agastache rupestris last fall, my first Agastaches. I carefully planted them in a dryish lean soil, under a big old pitch pine. They survived the winter but the pine didn't, so they got moved this spring when the pine was taken down. Now they're on a slope so drainage should be OK (my soil is sandy loam, well amended). Whether they're reliable I don't know yet.

I forgot to mention Clara Curtis and French Vanilla mums, both early bloomers along with the Red Daisy. I have other mums with tantalizing buds - all from Bluestone, some planted a few years ago, some this year.

Clara Curtis is a little bit pinker than shows here, next to ratty looking bearded iris foliage.

I also forgot Phlox David and Shasta Becky.

I'm with DTD on the Franklinia. I purchased one this spring from our conservation district at about 5 feet tall. It has grown a couple more feet and is flowering profusely for a small tree, with lovely white, lightly fragrant flowers. It's a wonderful patio tree.

I put the cosmos in front of a couple of peonies to mask the declining peony foliage, and it's worked out fabulously. I'll definitely sow them there again next year.

Oops, left out blooming hostas, Sedum 'neon', and, thanks to George (Ego45), a gorgeous Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue', which is the most stunning thing in my garden at the moment.

I signed on the computer this morning for the sole reason to add my caryopteris too! I realized I forgot to list it yesterday, which is unexplainable since it is the most beautiful thing blooming right now.

I also forgot my helianthus microcephalus.

What great timing for this thread while I am making a list of what is blooming now I am also printing labels for all of these plants and hope to add them to my journal this winter. Hopefully this will prevent me from buying any new plants next spring as THERE IS NO MORE ROOM.

I have a bad case of bug envy.

Hi Kt, this is the same slope from the post about ordinary plants. It has filled out a lot this year. I didn't use anything spectacular on it, just the old faithfuls that don't require a whole lot of work. The nice thing is that it is so full it doesn't require much weeding either. The post is attached where I list a lot of the plants.

Really nice, thyme! I think the slope garden compliments the house really well; I like the proportions, and the way you've varied the heights to make what might have been an imposing slope look welcoming.

DTD, your praying mantis is much better accessorized than mine. The caryopteris is certainly more flattering than ratty bearded iris foliage. Although it's easier for the bug to match the iris foliage than to match blue-purple flowers, if its concern is hiding from predators. I saw this guy on August 25 - I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't been watering plants. Watering really annoys praying mantises.

They apparently do not like to be relocated on newly purchased shrubs either. We were driving home last summer with 6 large spirea in the back of the car. After about 10 min, a huge praying mantis crawled out from behind the sun visor. He was right on the inside of the windshield staring at my husband. Scared the crap out of him! OK, he freaked me out too! Screeching halt!!! We got him safely out of the car. Phew! About 5 minutes later, a second one climbed out from the exact spot! We took the long way home so we wouldn't have to go on the highway in the case of any need to lock up the brakes! I scanned the car the entire way home hoping there weren't any more, and half expecting to see one perched on my son's head! They are beautiful in the garden, but I have to say they were a little scary in an alien sort of way when out of their element!

They are a little creepy loopking, I admit it! I wouldn't want to drive with one either.
