nice collection!!

You and I are in the same boat... relatively small property, but a desire to plant fruit trees.

Granted, I've only been gardening here for three years, and all the trees (with the exception of the Mulberry) are still small and not really of bearing age and size, but... I've got:

Strawberry Guava
Surinam Cherry
Gran Nain Banana
Ice Cream Banana
Rajapuri Banana
Mission Olive
Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry
Sugar Apple
Small Brown Fig
Key Lime
Temple Orange

I am hoping intently that none of the sensitive young trees get leveled by cold temps this winter. Love homegrown fruit. Homegrown anything, for that matter :)

I did the same thing...didn't pay attention. Then one day, I counted and stopped at 50. I vowed I would stop. I still managed to plant about another 10. It's a madhouse...

Yeah, I have two more to go, then I keep swearing I'll stop, but I know I won't.

The worst thing is that almost none of the citrus ever have fruit. The blooms all get blown off every spring. I'm trying to take my friend's advice and not fertilize heavily three times a year, but fertilize lightly every month. She says this makes the blooms stick better. We'll find out in March, I guess!

My longan still hasn't borne fruit either, never even bloomed. Someone is coming today to dig up the coral porterweed next to it that I suspect is suck the life out of it.

My best bearers are the surinam cherry, loquat, and peanut butter fruit. Most of the rest (except the citrus) are still small. I'm hoping to get Praying Hands bananas this year. The plant was a year old, and not growing, and I moved it. It's doing great, and has a baby, so it should bear this year. I'm giving it lots of water and food.

I really want a low chill peach and apple. If the citrus do not bear this year, I'll give them away and plant some.

Oooh, I'm really Badddd!

We have an acre and 1/3rd. I have hundreds of fruiting varieties of trees/shrubs/vines. Not counting the veggie gardens or herbs, or indoor/foliage/flowering/useless plants.

It doesn't look like anywhere near that number! I plant in groups, and still have lots in containers on the patio.

It adds up in a hurry. Last time I counted I had 50 Citrus.

Yet, we still have lots of lawn left.

I like to get all the varieties available in each plant grouping, such as all the dwarf Mangoes. Smaller plants mean I have room for more(G).

One day I'll get a complete list together, and then I'll be horrified at what I have spent over the years.

But, having fruit ripening all year round is so cool and such delicious fun! I really like roaming my yard, picking fresh foods every day!

I encourage you all to grow your own fruit/veggies. Then you have control over your food, a easy way to execise, and a stress relief from day to day living.

This morning I picked Papayas, Red Limes, Satsumas, Figs, Bearrs Lemons, Calamondins, Bananas, Barbados Cherries, Meyer lemons, Muntingias and Macadamia nuts. Oh, and 15 fresh eggs from the henhouse!

oooohhh... Loquat.. mmmmm... Loquat.... I just planted a kumquat tree and am on a hunt for a Loquat tree. I have not been able to find any down here in S. Florida. I am reserving space in the yard for the time I finally find one.

My question is how the heck do you fit so much on a piece of land, and still allow everything to get sunlight and have space? I would love to have tons of fruit and veggies growing, but I only have about .25 acres with a house on it. There is already a large mango and a large ficus, two smaller mohagony (about 15 ft tall), a mohinga and a small loquat (8-10 ft tall). I'm trying to figure out how in the heck I can fit more trees in the backyard with all of that going on in the backyard alone! If everything stayed the size they are now, that would be fine. Unfortunately I know how large the mohagony and loquat are supposed to get. Jeez! I need a bigger yard!
