Great photos! I am so jealous. ;o) We are doing all we can to attract some birds.

Are those bluebirds, wood thrush, northern flicker, pine warbler? That's quite a bounty of birds. I haven't even been seeing many cardinals like I normally do. Still just the usual summer birds and a pine warbler here and there. The winter action should begin soon! Great pictures. What camera/lens?

Great pictures Maureen! Love the flicker. I had them all the time in Montana but haven't seen any here in Florida. Good to know that there is a chance. Also love the brown thrushes. They are so cute kicking up the leaves. Birdbath full of bluebirds looks like a postcard! Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos.

Exceptionally beautiful photos, Maureen...especially the "portrait" of the flicker! Gary, I believe the bottom photo is a brown thrasher, close cousin to the mockingbird. Another great mimic, too, only the thrasher tends to repeat each phrase twice, where the mocker can repeat them over and over. A great addition to any garden!

Thanks for sharing, Maureen. Your bluebirds just inspire the heck out of me. Oh, how I would love to have a birdbath full of them in MY backyard!!

Having that many birds show up in the yard yesterday was such a treat. I had quite a time trying to identify all of them. It's been dry here for several days and the birdbath has been a magnet for them. Apparently the bluebirds have told all their friends about it because they're showing up here every afternoon.

Bluebirds are such fun to watch. They shared their space well with the smaller birds, but absolutely refused to relinquish the birdbath to the flicker, who really wanted it to himself. I also saw them chase off a pair of juvenile pileated woodpeckers who were about triple their size. Funny birds :)

So wonderful to see your bird photos! Please keep them coming often. To look at those little faces, it seems as tho you can see their personalities in their eyes. Wish my birdbath was as frequented. Lucky girl.

Is that last picture really a "brown thrasher"? I've always wondered what that bird was and have always described it as "looking like a mockingbird, but a nice caramel brown color". There's one that lives near my office. That's the only place/time I've ever seen one.

Nativemel, yes it is a brown thrasher, and they are first cousins to the mockers. You might notice they spend a lot of time on the ground, flinging leaves (thrashing) this way and that, looking for insects. They are also mimics, like the mockers, but tend to repeat each song twice, instead of multiple times.

I did notice my first winter visitor, a catbird. I usually get a few each year. Waiting for my buntings and the different warblers! Still wondering what camera and lens you're using Maureen...

Thanks Maureen. I have a D50 also. Were those pictures fully zoomed? They came out without being dark, so I'm wondering what F-stop your lens was at. I have a 70-300 which is so-so at such things.
