Help Please! Need Tile And Cabinet Advice ASAP!
Comments (8)A lot of the problems presented here are not the end of the world, but that doesn't mean that you're crazy for wanting things done the right way. I consider tile to be more or less permanent and a vanity to be more like a piece of furniture (even if it's screwed to the walls). My inlaws were looking to do a cosmetic/fixture update of their powder room and were looking to replace just the vanity/sink/faucet and toilet but leave the tile floors as is. It was an odd shaped vanity and installed before the tile was. They ended up putting off the project because they couldn't do what they wanted to without ripping out the tile and they didn't want to go there yet. Now I'm not saying that my inlaws are not unusual ;) but I don't see this as an impossible scenario. Of course I'm also very picky. I want things to be done the way I want them to be done, and I want them done right. I don't really care if a contractor has "always done it that way" or if he thinks something is no big deal. In his house he gets to decide what is a big deal and what isn't. In my house I get to make that decision....See MorePlease help with crown! I need to make decision ASAP!!
Comments (13)Please help me to understand what I'm seeing from your pictures. The cabinets on the left side and left part of the top leg of the U are under a "beam" or soffit? And the ones on the right are not directly under the soffit? If that's the case, the better look would be to create a soffit over the cabinets on the top leg of the U. Using crown can work great in some kitchens to unify and accessorize cabinets, but in your case, it will only serve to accent the disharmony between the two sides. In Karen_lynne's space, only the single beam had to be cut around, but doing the same in your kitchen, with no crown on the left wall due to the beam will not look cohesive. It will look choppy. If the cabinets to the left are actually open at the top where you'll be able to use crown, then cutting it around the one beam won't be as much of an issue....See MoreSmall kitchen reno - please help asap!
Comments (20)nsm - Great question. I originally wanted the Ringhult, but it's too dang expensive for this humble abode and I feared the look was too modern anyway. The pink undertone gave me pause--I even talked to the kitchen sales gal about it. She suggested it's because it's next to such a pure white with the Ringhult and the lighting in Ikea doesn't do it any favors. If you look at the other displays at Ikea--especially the sink display--that's Veddinge and it didn't read pink to me. The color is relative, I think. My walls are Sherwin Williams Snow Bound and they look very complimentary. I like the two together a lot. However, my fridge and range are closer to pure white and when I compare them to the cabs they look there iis a slight pink undertone. Of course, no one sees this but me and I actually like pink anyway. If one has stainless steel appliances I don't think they would notice the undertone unless they tried to pair Veddinge with a neutral counter or backsplash that has a yellow or green undertone, which would probably not look good. We've been using the cabs for about two months and so far so good. Since they're painted I don't expect them to last forever. In our last house we had the Adel white shaker style that I think was a thermafoil and I loved that finish. wore like iron. If the shaker style came in white rather than the creamy color I would have jumped on that style again, but I dislike SS appliances and white appliances with the Grimslov doesn't look good to me....See MorePLEASE help me choose countertop color asap!
Comments (43)What a gorgeous kitchen! I'm jealous of all that beautiful wood. The character of the wooden beams and wooden base cabinets bring such warmth and personality, it almost feels like the outdoors are coming in. I had looked under your name in the finished kitchens blog to see if you were there, really appreciate you sharing the photo. Your backsplash is so pretty, just the right amount of bling and lightness. Where did you find it? I'd like to do he same thing, with subway glass tile everywhere except right behind the stove, do arabesque there. If I had a kitchen like this, I'd want to cook a lot too. =) Love hearing that cleanup is easy with a stain resistant grout, that's a great tip, I'll be sure to ask for that too, Was it an epoxy grout?...See Moredolivo
