Ken beat me to it - I only have a few hostas in pots, so in order to keep the entertainment lively I would have to make it a combination tipping - tippling party. That also opens up the possibilities for the guest list since most of my friends wouldn't identify with TIPPING.

Yep yep, that's the idea of getting them there, do some tippling if so inclined, and then do some tipsy footwork in the garden.

I think perhaps St. Patrick's Day is a good time to have such a party. Wearing the green and all, some corned beef and cabbage, and an assortment of libations. I would enjoy a Mimosa myself....the champagne and orange juice with maybe some Grand Marnier splashed on it.

When this occurred to me, I was reading the AHS Journal that arrived yesterday, writing of so many container gardeners. It seems to me, we have enough tippers now to have quite a party.

Next thing you know I am going to hear about SPINNING the HOSTA parties ! hahahahah

It's been two years already since this post originated. Perhaps it is time for Tipping Party 2015. I have two friends who know what hostas are. Sounds like the right number for a party to me.

Any party that involves a combination of corned beef, cabbage and champagne works for me. The hostas are optional. :)

Pardon me for not understanding this party! I can relate to tippling, like much more than 2 beers per day.

Here in the still frozen North we could have a pot tipping party in fall to place all pots on its side to prevent crown rot the following spring. I also would understand an un-tipping party of hosta pots in spring, and a drink with it is always great!

Bernd, I suppose it is the untipping party for spring, second verse of the fall party. You are right though, about needing something hot and warm up your way. I can see a hot buttered rum, heated by a red hot poker. I think that is the drink of choice for the Bon Homme celebration in Quebec, right?

Speaking of Canada, I am ordering H. Tall Boy which was registered by the Montreal Botanic Gardens in the 80s. There was mention of it last year on the forum.

This whole week, we've had warm humid foggy weather, with several days of warm rain. It rained 2 inches overnight, slow and steady. I brought in my Meyer lemon tree to keep all the blossoms from falling off. The new plantaginea hosta (3 which I still do not recollect ordering) and the newly arrived H. Tattoo from PDN are all sitting on my back deck so I can watch them turning green. With the temperatures ranging between 50 and 70, it won't take the hosta long to emerge.

I can understand a tipping part in Fall, but an Un tipping party would be more appropriate in Spring. But I just cover mine in Fall, and uncover them in Spring here. But I can drink to that...or whatever you want to do too!

Actually, I wouldn't want my friends to come and pot my hostas. They don't even know what a hosta is, much less how to pot one.

But I'm game for a party...just about any excuse will do. But here in CA, I'm afraid that if I had a "potting" party they might expect something very different. ;) We're expecting a possible 80 degrees this weekend, so a cold beer would work well.

Babka, you are right, you and DonB must tippy toe around the potting stuff. I mentioned somewhere else that as gardeners of potted plants, we are pottager gardeners, perhaps a "cottager pottager gardener", not a potager, which is a kitchen garden. Now it has been used twice, perhaps it will wind up as the introduction of a new word in the English language.
