Kristi, here's how I do it:

1. Upload your photos to a host site. I use Photobucket, preferring the options there over all others. It's free and simple.

2. Once your have your photos uploaded, you will see that underneath each thumbnail, there are some options. Click on the third option down, and you will see a small window that says "Copied." That means you have copied the HTML text for that photo's location.

3. Go to your message field on GW, and put your cursor in the middle of your message, wherever to you want your photo to appear. Right click at that spot and choose "Paste."
You will then see the HTML code for your photo appear, and if you click on Preview, you can check to see if the photo is now in your message. It should be.

Just a p.s., because Marcia's instrucctions were great... if you use aol as your browser, switch to internet explorer or other broser because aol & photobucket just aren't compatible. It took sweat (but not blood or tears, thankfully) to finally realize that.

Thanks for that tip, ima! I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised. That's one of the reason I have always avoided aol like the plague...there are MANY sites out there that can't be viewed or used properly with them. (At least, there used to be. Perhaps they have gotten better these days.)

I quit photobucket and use Picassa now. I am an AOL user and had no prob for a couple of years with PB. BUT if you have too many photos in your account or go in and out often, Photo Bucket bogs down. I don't have that prob with Picassa. I have way more photos and info stored there than I ever had on Photo Bucket. Just personal preference report. Everyone's computers and personal preferences are different. The day I see Kristi FINALLY post a picture, I think I will drink a whole case of Michelob Pomegranate/Raspberry!!!!!!!! Cheers m'dears.

Cindee, not sure why you would have that problem unless it's AOL again. I have 25 albums on Photobucket, several of which have more than 300 photos in them, and it works perfectly for me. You are right, everyone has their own preferences, but I have tried at least six or seven other host sites, and Photobucket definitely works best for me. Kristi, all I can say is try a couple and see which one you like best. But my instructions are specifically for Photobucket. If you use another host, you'll have to see how they have it set up for copying the HTML code.

So which browser are you using, Marcia (being lazy here, assuming you made a wise choice). I've had aol for many years and have only encountered two sites that weren't compatible, photobucket being one of the two.

I use IE, primarily, though I have tried Firefox and a couple of others. I like IE better. But I do NOT use AOL, so don't know if that is why Photobucket doesn't work well for some folks or not. (AOL doesn't work well with my email client and doesn't allow me to use the graphics I want to in that regard.)

Photobucket sure works great for me for image hosting, so that's all I have to go by. And believe me, because of the many groups I used to belong to, I'm sure I have over 1,000 images up there.

But you have to go with whatever works for you, your ISP, your computer, etc. As I say, I can only vouch for what works for me.

So this is how NOT savvy I am. I don't even know what IE is. One thing that annoys the (I'd curse, but Felix may happen on this post)... so pants off me is that AOL adds advertising lines on posts on other forums. Oh duh, IE must be Internet Explorer? Is that it?

Haha, yep! That's it! You have to meet Felix one day, speaking of him. He's just the sweetest man!! Even if he wants us to be Ladies and watch our language, you would still love him. I know I do!

I use Firefox and love it! Switching to that from Internet Explorer instantly fixed a couple problems for me and I've turned into a big fan of Firefox.

I'm also a fan of Photobucket. I have hundreds of photos there and I find it to be very fast and easy to use. But as others have said, it really is a matter of preference once you find a photo host that works with your system. All of them are designed to be easy to use. I started out at Webshots and have given Kodak a try too. I checked out Picasa after some of the folks here said they liked it. But I've never had a problem with Photobucket and that's the one I use almost daily.
