Freezing Pies

calliope

I am drowning under a wonderful bonanza of apples this year and am considering, since I don't need any more apple butter or sauce, to put a lot up for pies. I'll can some for that, but would like to get a few pies made to freeze, for those times when I need a desert and don't want to make one. I have tried freezing them completely cooked before, and for some reason the crust came out soggy. Should I partially cook them first? Put the pie in the freezer uncooked? I know my mother used to make apple pies and freeze, but danged, I don't remember how she did it.

Since I'm on the subject of freezing pies, can pumpkin pies be frozen? I'm assuming you would cook this one entirely before freezing.
