My choice would be one hyberdized by Bill Munson. Nivia Guest is a very pretty one. It would bloom at the same time as the ones you have planted.

Of those on your list, I grow Bela Lugosi and Night Beacon. Bela is VERY dark (blackish purple), and Night Beacon doesn't grow very well for me. I've heard that some of Hansen's cultivars don't do very well in the North, so you might want to keep that in mind with your purchase.

I would also recommend a Munson purple, especially if you like watermarks. Nivea Guest would be a great choice. This is a photo of two Munsons -- African Grape is the one on the left and is a beautiful shade of purple. Kabuki Ballet (foreground) is more of a claret color.

This one is new to me but I kept hearing that it is a knockout and reblooms, so I had to add it to my daylily collection.

STRUTTERS BALL is a good one and rather inexpensive, I have INDIAN GIVER in 3 different beds.

WOODSIDE AMETHYST--the flower isn't very large but it has a great many. The plant increases rapidly and blooms for a long period.

I must correct my mistake, I called the picture Woodside Amethyst in my post---the picture is labeled correctly. I don't know what happened to WA's picture.

It is a very attractive purple and has many flowers and blooms for a long time. I planted it last fall, just a small piece and this year it had about 8 to 10 scapes and bloomed and bloomed.

What about Solomon's Robes? I was going to buy it from Sunset Meadows but they are sold out. I haven't seen it...just pictures only, but the purple looks really rich. Does anyone have that one?

Hi I have many purples a lot are my seedlings but the ones I like more every year is a few I use in my breeding program that have good color and shape and pass this to there siblings,Hamlet,Chicago Weathermaster,Bela lugosi and about 6 seedlings.

Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up getting Purple Arachne anyway because I didn't have any spiders and I liked the name and most importantly the nursery had it. This thread did make me realize that I need more daylilies so I think I'll start a daylily garden next to my garage next year. Any idea where I can get Parma Violet or some of the other Munsons?

Check out the LA for some nice buys on some of the Munsons. Also, try doing a web search for the specific cultivar you're looking for. If you type in "daylily" then the name of the cv, you'll usually get several vendors for it.

This is a great post. I am still googling various recommendations and loving them. I just want to toss in an idea - Fellow. It is spidery, nice dark purple, colour-fast for me and was really vigorous in a dry, dry garden this year. Affordable too (I think I paid $10 for a double fan).
