First Daylily Bloom

My first bloom this season is on a seedling. The second bloom will also likely be a seedling. As for the registered daylilies, Kiss of Paradise and Stone Palace Rejoice are in a race to be first.

The parents are (Alan Lane Agin X Cosmic Sensation) X Midnight Castleand

and Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision

That's a beautiful seedling. I hope it has good stats for you.

Our seedlings are often the first to bloom. We had 4 daylilies in bloom today, three of which are seedlings. We are about 2 weeks ahead this spring.

Judy, you know full well that you are among fellow addicts when it comes to buying plants. And I so love the English roses...just be sure to give them plenty of room. They will need it. Vel, it is a record for me, that is for sure. It was one I got in the fall from Bill Maryott, but no way was able to resist taking pictures of those three together. Thanks Cindy, all of my early clematis are covered in buds. They are hapopy with the strange weather. Rebecca is a true red in my garden...same color as my monitor, and the blooms are large. Dumortieri is know for being very early, Rita. It has a very unusual trumpet shape, it does look like a lily. Jean, I remember you talking about snakes! I've never had that problem, had to move a couple of huge frogs out last year that were eating the fish. My peonies are full of buds this year. I have a couple in bloom, Julia. I have a bright pink one blooming right next to my Daughter of Stars, really bright together. Thanks for the comments everyone, that first daylily bloom is really great :)

Julian, my iris list was out of control at one time. I'm making some changes in the iris this year. I still don't have it all done, but I am in better shape...but all the rain is encouraging weeds even in mulched areas. Thanks Jean. The spring rose flush has started. I don't know, but it's probably a combination of weird weather and some nice little varmint. Thanks Debra. Actually, Fashion Statement didn't do a lot until I moved it from one end of the bed to the other, then it went like gangbusters. I do have a good many daylilies with scapes. It is the first one, so it's good, but spotty. thanks, Linda. the iris are such dramatic blooms, that it is a pleasure to see them every year. I forget how much work they are:) kay I

I'm not a fan of toothy daylilies but your seedlings are beautiful. Nice that your daylily season is off to a great start.

Nan and Brad - I don't think this one will be an extra early in the future. The scape is on the outside of the fan, so this is obviouisly a scape that didn't have enough rain or time to bloom last year. And since that scape was formed in a drought it has very few buds, only four. I expect to see it produce another scape this season, and I look forward to seeing what kind of bud count that one will have.

I like the 3rd seedling out of RS. But I've always been impressed with the looks of your Razor Sharp. It's one that stays in the back of my mind year to year........Maryl

Your seedlings are beautiful Debra. I am not sure which one is my favorite., but as always I seem to dark ones, but the other two also are gorgeous and can't really pick a favorite.
