Late Bloomers

It's very unusual for me to post twice in one day, but it rained buckets early this morning, then again, then again, then I lost track. About all I could do was go out between the showers and do some deadheading. The downpours did a good job ruining most of the blooms.

Anyway, I took the oppotunity to post another set of photos here. Almost feel like I'm catching up a bit! These all started blooming the last week of July.

Vintage, 1955:

Captured these in a little too much sunlight. They're actually darker than the photo shows:

New this year. The bloom is huge (10"), and looked silly blooming a few inches off the ground. (Another instance where I didn't want to cut off the scape!) It's actually not a late bloomer, but rather midseason. It should bloom earlier next year:

Great pics, Julie.

I wish Mynelle's Starfish was taller in my garden, but I put up with it for the size of the bloom.

MS is shorter than I'd like also, but like Chris, I love the bloom so put up with the short scapes. I love your ES and FD...beautiful photos of all of them however. Glad someone got rain...I've had sprinklers going on one bed or another most of the day here.

Thanks everyone. I find it's easier to appreciate the late daylilies when there is so little competition. I like them all. Marg and Jean,I think Alexis Sunny Pants just might be my favorite plant in the garden this year. It is such a fabulous performer. Eggplant Electricity has been a favorite for a few years. Mantis--Spacecoast Dragon Prince was new last August, but so far has been very impressive. I've always liked Elegant Finale--a very nice late bloomer. Purple Archittecture is fairly new and is putting on a show. Great branching on this one. Val

How late are late bloomers?

I have one dahlia which is now 4 ft tall, but I still see no sign of bud forming. It otherwise looks very healthy; I planted it at the same time as my other blooming dahlias (in May). So, I am wondering if this is one of the so-called late bloomers. I dont know what variety it is.

Like the Skater and Royal Jester pics. You seem to have a lot of rebloom this year. After thinking my season would never end last year due to rebloom, it has been rare to see rebloom scapes this year. Certainly not due to lack of rain as it has been plentiful (sorry for all of you that have not) and lilies seem to be putting energy into multiplying as they certainly are doing that!! Monday's late bloomers

Some of these seedlings I have posted before, but they were so pretty today, I just had to take pictures. We were really excited about this one. This is a rebloom scape on Abilene Lillian X (Empire of Dawn and Dusk X Ruby Lipstick). The base color is more cream while the pollen parent's base color sometimes looks pale pink. The edge is all the way around the petal on this one. I have posted this one before. I wish the sepals were better formed. This is Jewel of Jewels X Dr Jules Michael Vinkman. This is a rebloom scape. I posted this the other day, but this is a much better picture of Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding X Rosy Spiketail. This is also on a rebloom scape. This is a cross of a seedling from Nicole DeVito (gifts when visiting her garden on the Mecca tours of 2015) with Purple Peek-a-boo. That's all for today. Nancy

Pretty pics.Love the color on FD. Don't worry so much about catching up. We'll need those pics during the winter months to stop the DT's (Daylily Tremors)! LOL!

I really like Endless Sky, but it's one of those slow increasers. I'll have to be patient with that one.

Fuchsia Dream has been a favorite of mine because of its bright color, and heavy bloom, which adds lots of color in my August garden.

ES is even better in person, close up, because you can see how the white midrib starts out wide, then narrows as it reaches outward.

Endless Sky is a pretty one! You are very lucky to be getting the rain. Maybe you'll have rebloom scapes popping up later tis week. It's 97 degrees here and bone dry.
