Learning Curve

Made my first batch of pickles almost two weeks ago - this week I'm a pickling fool. Today I put up 8 half pints of dill relish and 5 pints of bread and butter pickles. I'm learning quite a bit, but also full of questions.

Seems I forgot to let the air bubbles out of my B&B pickles today. The brine is not terribly low, but it is below the 'pickle line'. Is this a problem (since there is a little bit of onion above the brine)? If so, at what point does it become a problem? We'll probably eat these within the next couple of months because they are the 'taster' batch. Thanks in advance for your comments. And sorry for all the newbie pickling questions - just don't want to make anybody sick from by first canning ventures!
