Do you have any of the jars? Can you measure them?

You can't go by the published diameter ogf the canner. The published diameter is the top diameter. There is a taper so the bottom diameter is less than the top diameter.

I can put 7 of the newer larger nominal *quart* jars on the upper tier of an All American canner which would probably equate to what you have. If you could get me some measurements I could do a little better at guessing.

The newer metric jars of 'quarts', can only fit 6 inside, unless the inner diameter of the canner is loose fitting around the 7 jars. Before you do canning, try placing 7 quarts (actually slighly larger) in there and see if they all fit.

Zeuspaul, the h & w of the one liter jars measure 7" x 3 5/8". The 500 ml jars measure 5 1/4" x 3 1/8". Both have flatish sides and rounded corners. The width size is the squared off size. Height measurements are with lids on.

Ken, are they selling ÂThe newer metric jars of quarts" in the US? Not sure I understand are they quart jars that have 946 ml listed as volume or are they actually 1 liter jars?

The GH and Ball quarts are slightly bigger than 32 ounces. I think is someplace like 34.5 ounces or so. Golden Harvest jars started showing up in the new size, when Ball went to a shrink wrapped plastic cover over a small box bottom. Now, both Ball and GH jars are metric capacities. The sizes are maybe an eight of an inch larger, and with 6-7 quarts in a canner, they are a bit too tight for the 7th jar. Also noticable on pints too, but they are smaller jars and only a little effect on the outer sizes of these jars.

My new larger Golden Harvest jars are 3 7/8 x 7 inches with lid on. They are shaped as you indicate. Seven fit comfortably in the upper tire of the 930 All American canner. Both the 921 and the 930 have a diameter of 12 5/8 inches. This refers to the inner top diameter.

Are you sure of the jar dimensions? My older canning jars are 3 3/4 x 7 inches which is still a larger jar than your liter jar.

Your liter jars should fit.

Some other canners are 12 inch diameter. Seven of the new larger jars would not fit in a 12 inch diameter canner.

I can't help with the pints because I do not have an appropriate collection of pint jars. Lids are the most expensive part in the canning equation so I prefer canning with quarts as a cost saver.

I have 7 new Ball quart jars in the bottom tier of my 930 right now canning some beans. They fit fine with some space around them.

Seven new Kerr jars fit on the bottom tier of my 930 but seven new Golden Harvest do not. The Ball jars must be closer in size to the Kerr. I stopped buying Golden Harvest and pay the extra dollar for Kerr. I haven't found a local source for Ball.

I found Ball jars at my local Wal*Mart store for $8 doz.

Ball, Kerr, and Golden Harvest are all the SAME company now. Soon, they will all be metric. if the US continues its push for the metric system.

Ken, interesting. I guess the US is slowly moving to the metric system.

Personally IÂm a transition child who grew up with the Imperial system and then had to learn the Metric system in later grade school. I understand the logic behind us switching for international trade reasons (most of the world is Metric) but old habits die hard, I still convert Kilometers to Miles, Celsius to Fahrenheit etc.

Many people don't realize that in the US, many items sold are in metric amounts already. Most all carbonated beverages, and even mayonnaise is in metrics.

Our city department moved to the metric system about ten years ago. The push came from the feds who required contracts to be metric. The state followed the move to the metric for civil contracts as well.

We never fully implemented it and now it's gathering dust. The feds backed off and finally the stated removed requirements as well. Now we never hear it mentioned.

If you change the size of a piece of plywood it may not fit in the back of a pick-up truck. If you change the size of a canning jar it may not fit in a canner.....there are thousands of other problems.

My All American 921 pressure canner arrived yesterday. What a sweet little canning tool!

IÂm posting to inform folks (primarily other Canadian canners that may be wondering) that the 921 does in fact safely hold 7 (seven) one Liter Bernardin jars and 18 (eighteen) 500ml jars.

I also ordered the Ball Blue Book (very nice!).

Let us know how your first experience using it goes. I don't think you can get a better canner than that.

Don't forget to lube the metal rim as noted in the manual. I had a little trouble getting the lid off the first time...ended up tapping the claw side of a hammer as a wedge to get the lid off. It worked better than the screw driver noted in the manual.

It's a beauty. I thought **now that's a work of art!** when I got my 930.

It reeks quality.

However it gets a lot of competition from my Kuhn Rikon Durotherm pot! It's a real beauty! Double wall stainless with a double wall stainless lid. She's a real energy saver.
