Canning for Mother's Birthday Present

Hello everybody. I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and am really interested in doing some canning. My garden is coming along nicely and I know I will have some veggies leftover to store for later. In the mean time, I would like to go ahead and start canning some some fresh produce from our local farmers markets. My mother's 60th birthday is coming up in about a month and I was thinking of canning her a variety of recipes and was wondering what you all might suggest for a beginner canner like myself. I have on loan from my mother a water bath canner and no pressure canner. I'll have access to plenty of vegetables as a lot of stuff is in season here in Alabama already. So far I would like to do Annie's Salsa and the Roasted Tomato soup that I have read so much about. What would be your other suggestions. I'm guessing some form of pickles, maybe bread and butter pickles, zucchini pickles, pickled beets, etc. I'm open to all suggestions and tips.
