Anyone buy themselves a Mother's Day present?

I did!

It's not as though my kids didn't give me presents (they did!), but I've been in uber-frugal mode for months and decided I could treat myself to a couple of things that fall into the category of "luxuries" even though they don't cost a great deal, because I don't really need them.

So I took advantage of two Mother's Day sales and bought myself Topaz Clean, a photo editing program, and three bundles of hand-dyed rug hooking wool from Ram in the Thicket.

Anyone else treat themselves today?

Well, 33 years ago, I delivered my Mother's Day present that day. He shares the same birthday with my brother. And today, their birthdays fell on Mothers' Day again.

I'm not a mother and my own mother passed on a few years' ago. So it is a bit of a "non" celebration for me. I went to the garden center (with about a million other people because it was a spectacularly beautiful spring day) and bought a couple of coral bells for the garden and lots of annuals for the garden and my porch. Then I went to Pier One and bought two fabulous wrought iron plant holders for my porch--just what I was looking for. So yes I bought myself several presents on if not for Mother's Day.

It may be past your mother's birthday (what wonderful gifts you gave her!), but remember that the winter holidays aren't too far afield. There should be lots of fruit available now so you might want to try your hand at jams. Right now it is peach and blueberry season in NC, just past is strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and cherry (all in the freezer from my garden and farmer's gardens), but coming up is pear, apple, and late peaches, and the oh so wonderful figs. Your area might even have some of the tropical fruits in season? If you don't want to make jams with as much sugar as the usual, you can use the "low or no sugar" pectin. Easier than the other recipes you successfully made. And, there is nothing in the world to compare to a jar of peach jam in the middle of January that tastes like it was just plucked off the tree. Most people don't know how good jam tastes homemade with sugar instead of corn syrup. My personal favorite is seedless raspberry chocolate jam. I've only received flowers from my husband twice in the 25 plus years I've known him. He gave me flowers when I had chicken pox and we were dating. He also gave me flowers on an anniversary about 8 years ago. Brought them to my classroom even! I was shocked. My husband isn't big on gifts, but he treats me well throughout the year. I'd rather have that. He did surprise me this year with a huge Starbucks gift card. Everyone in the family turned in their coins and it came out to be $77. They know how much I love my mochas! My daughter made me breakfast in bed. My husband gave me breakfast in bed on Saturday. (He does this almost every weekend, though.) Sheryl

rjr220--I was just going to start a Happy Mothers Day thread. I also was going to mention that only the TKO Mothers out there probably appreciate if we are given an appliance to mark this day! And what mother is excited to be loading the dishwasher on Mothers Day? ME!! Every load in the new drawers is an experiment and a joyful experience! My dh gave me a gift card to Overstock! I'm getting an ottoman to go with the new couch that is going to totally complete this renovation! Happy Mothers Day to all!

Aw thanks Titian ! You are so sweet. And I didn't see the Christmas gift vase Cori Ann had posted , thank you for pointing it out !! How sweet! These past couple days have been a madhouse here getting ready for Christmas. My highlight of the holiday was my sweet girl dancing in the aisle at church tocjoy to the world . It was a moment I'll treasure! You know you want to raise your children right and I want her so much to love Jesus and it seems like we are on the right path in that moment :) We had so much fun . I hope y'all did too :) sultry , high country roses is excellent! We just don't get nice new roses here in my town. Some goodies at lowes and some older Austins 45 min away. So I decided this spring I am not wasting gas money hoping something will turn up locally . Beth, resistance is futile ! It's the winter blues that make all these orders so easy . Also not a mother myself, but a friend always sends me a Mother's Day card signed by my pets(!). She is a widow with no children so I suppose this is her way of making the day special for others as well as herself. She's a kind lady.

I didn't buy myself a mother's day gift...my daughter came to see me, bearing gifts, but I often buy myself birthday or Christmas presents...or that is the excuse I use. It is always plants or a piece of junk from the flea market.

Mother's Day is the saddest day of the year for me, since I am no longer a mother or a daughter. So I bought myself an iPad. It was still a sad day, but I love my new toy.

After my mom left yesterday to go home (after a wonderful weekend together!) my DH and DS and I went to Menards to get a few things. We've been looking for a nice ornamental tree for our front yard and happened to find the perfect one, a weeping cherry tree, and it was on sale (!). We weren't even tree shopping, we just happened to start walking through the tree section after I found a few annual flowering plants. We were thrilled!

Wanda I'm happy you like your new Ipad, I like mine too. I want to say that you'll always be your mother's daughter and the mother of our own daughter. They're just in another dimension and they are being very patient and so are you until you all reunite. God bless you.

I did too! Since only one of my four children bothered to even call, I went to the greenhouse today after my doctor appointment and bought some annuals for my deck pots and then found some nice plant stands at Big Lots.

I bought a "large bag on wheels", would be the best way to describe it. I found it difficult to haul all my groceries in to the apartment building, and fiddling with the security door. So, I found this, put my grocery bags inside and just roll it, like luggage on wheels.
